I was a never-Trumper until election day. I stood there and looked at the ballot – Hillary or Donald or nothing. I had to consider the consequences of Hillary being elected. While I didn’t particularly like Trump, I knew that Hillary would be a disaster. I felt I had to vote for Trump and just keep my fingers crossed (and it looks like it was a good decision). I also remembered how the media treated the first Bush versus Clinton. I thought that maybe the media was doing the same thing to Trump (and they were and still were).

@DavidW – Prager and Levin were the same for the most part but like VDH they are amazing lietenants on the battlefied NOW.
Who cares what they thought then, a leader NOW, like the POTUS, brings ideas and firepower together.
It’s called a Rebellion…been there and looks like we are in need of a Jeffersonian ideal…never met ’em.

That is a good interview, watched the whole thing. For an academic Victor Davis Hanson is a sharp guy.

VDH is absolutely brilliant … as a truly gifted, fantastic historian, he sees the situation through the lens of human endeavor & understands that this has all been done before (read ‘The Peloponnesian Wars’ … AMAZING!) & that history is basically the inherent biases & typical responses of human nature.
Trump, instinctively, knows this

A few years back, just after the election, I listened to VDH give a speech about Trump and why he won the election. It was a very popular speech and the buzzphrase that hit all the blogs was VDH’s description of Trump’s “animal cunning.” Aside from that, Victor didn’t — to my mind — get much else right about why people voted for Trump. And why is that important? I think it’s because those who supported Trump don’t particularly like having an outsider, if you will, explain the case for Trump. Harsh, I know, but Gingrich went on the rubber chicken circuit (Heritage Club, AEI, etc.) giving his six hour lecture series on the same thing and then, of course, writing a book about it. I imagine all intellectuals have to hold back a part of themselves and their full endorsement; I suppose they think it necessary to preserve at least the appearance of objectivity. I just don’t happen to think we need an apologetics genre for Trump. If you’re an American patriot, you already know the case for trump and if you’re not, not even Victor Davis Hanson will convince you.

BFH, I also thank you for this video link to VDH. I am a 4th generation native to CA until evacuating 10 yrs ago, so Mr. Davis’ account of changes in the state rings loud and clear. For a man of his intelligence he is remarkably level and humble. Thanks again, it was a good listen/watch.
