By threatening to turn off the dialysis machines at Charity Hospital and canceling the most anticipated LSU’s Football season in years, the good governor has pulled the noose a little tighter. And we aren’t very picky which lamp post he’ll swing from.
DMF: Governor John Bel Edwards, who campaigned to fix the state budget problems with cuts, not by raising taxes on an already high taxed citizenry, spoke to the the citizens of Louisiana Thursday night. In his twelve plus minute speech, the Governor addressed the state’s budget deficit of nearly $1 billion dollars…and he told Louisianans it’s worse than he thought. (even though he had sat in the Louisiana House of Reps from 2008, and as minority leader since 2012 where he voted for deficit spending) So now he targets Health and Higher Education for cuts.
Interesting twist. On the local level they usually threaten cuts in police and fire protection when they want to raise taxes. He’s playing the same card game, just throwing out different cards.
All Too Much: yes. Clubs instead of spades.
I have an even better proposal (credit to a nephrologist at my old hospital). Don’t turn off the dialysis machines, change the parameters of what makes a patient a candidate. Dialysis costs are a big portion of what put my old hospital under. Patient Compliance is a huge issue. My floor (Med/Sur Renal) served a population that was for the most part non-compliant. Instead of taking the doctor’s recommendations for improving their health, the average patient simply went on as before and came in 3x/week to have their blood cleaned out. The doctors proposal was that any Type II diabetic with a HgbA1C (indicator of long-term blood sugar control) that didn’t show improvement over 3 months would no longer be a candidate for treatment. Insurance companies have told Type II diabetics for the past 10 years that their condition is preventable so they’re not going to cover their oral diabetes medications anymore. This would be a parallel initiative.
Unfortunately, the population in question at my old hospital, oftentimes they wanted their disease process to progress because it kept them on disability. Nothing made them happier than learning that they were going to lose some toes.
Madness. Sheer madness.
I found out this new, “Hate Crime,” law. It says that resisting arrest is a hate crime. Not wanting to go to jail is not a hateful act. This law’s actual purpose was to commit a hate crime against anyone the police want to pick on. It was already a crime to resist arrest. The law was started to be disrespectful of the Black Lives Matter movement, it uses the same initials and if you didn’t hate the police before, then you will now. Black people must still be counted as 3/5 of a vote, because the government is now telling the truth 2/5 of the time. Nobody should be surprised when more cops will get killed than the year before. Killing a cop was already a crime and no form of U.S. government would allow someone to go free or even less than life in prison for doing so. No additional punishment or accusation ever was ever needed. So if you think that this adds protection, then you are wrong. Tacking on 10 years to a life sentence is not going to change anything! The law is misreporting the hate crime laws and this law will interfere with statistics that are based the actual meaning of the words that laws are written in, English. I wasn’t mad at the police before, but I do now! Why? Because you are, “Protecting” those who are already in control. Just as a reminder to everyone that approved, this will not benefit the police at all. Not wanting to go to jail is not a hate crime. Louisiana is truly the anus of the United States now! Good job! Maybe next year a hurricane will relieve the citizens of their oppression and relieve the government of the responsibility that they no longer care for! THIS LAW IS THE HATE CRIME!! TELL THE TRUTH!! YOU MAKE OUR COUNTRY REPULSIVE!!
