NEWS10- NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana is suing the state of California over its decision to ban the import and sale of alligator products, saying the ban will hurt an important Louisiana industry and ultimately could hurt the state’s wetlands.
In a lawsuit filed Thursday, Louisiana said the economy surrounding alligators has played a key role in bringing back the American alligator population and is an important factor in protecting wetlands and other species besides alligators that depend on the wetlands.
“California has nevertheless attempted to destroy the market for American alligator products notwithstanding the fact that no such alligators live in California,” the lawsuit says.
According to The Times-Picayune/the New Orleans Advocate, California banned alligator skins and meats in the 1970s but repeatedly issued exceptions that allowed sales. The newspaper reports that the most recent exemption expires on Jan. 1 of next year, and this time California’s legislature did not pass another exemption. The newspaper reports the alligator ban was backed by a coalition of animal rights and environmental groups. more
Having lived in Florida for a number of years, I can assure everyone that alligators most definitely ARE NOT endangered. Chihuahuas, toy poodles, etc., ARE, though. Hereabouts we refer to such barking rats as “bait”.
Good hunting, Louisiana!
Chances are……California believes there may be a direct connection between Louisiana alligators and cancer.
Sorry to you Louisiana but you are not alone when it comes to California and their bullshit about EVERYTHING being connected to cancer.
What they don’t realize/acknowledge is the fact that liberalism is the cancer that permeates America.
So ban Netflix and Apple products and move on. That will hurt the CA tax base much more than a few alligator nuggets. May even start a preference cascade.
Prohibited goods demand a higher price.
Louisiana should encourage smuggling of alligator pelts (or whatever) not just into California but mexico, central America, and south America.
Oh … and Oregano, Washington, NY, and DC.
(throw in some ammo and they’ll get as rich as a Demonrat politician)
izlamo delenda est …
The premise of this lawsuit is kind of a hoot. Using the libs environmentalism against them. (Seems to me that California is interfering with the Commerce Clause.)
Major Mal Function ^^^ Yes, the whole country should gang up on california for their idiot stand on banning travel to anti-gay states, their stupid car standards and anti-gun laws. All things other states have adopted. Die california and do the world a favor.
Too easy. Have several weekly alligator roundups, say for about 16 or 17 weeks in a row and send all of the live alligators to the Peoples Democratic Republic of Kalifornia. Let them figure out how to keep their children and small domestic animals alive.

Here’s a whacky idea: Gather together “your” state’s rulers, and have them ban the import (sale, and licensing) of vehicles compliant with California regulations, that do no exist in “your” state. Grandfather in all the current “clunkers”, of course.
“The newspaper reports the alligator ban was backed by a coalition of animal rights and environmental groups.”
In other words, people who know very little about farming, raising, hunting, or processing alligators from a PERSONAL perspective.
