Trump announced the decision to remove the tree in a Sunday statement on his social media platform, Truth Social. More
Magnolias are commonly considered among the messiest trees to have in your yard. Here and Here
They are messy but not as messy as male and female gingko trees . The leaves are a pretty fan shape but the ripe fruit of the female trees are a horrible stinky mess . Gingko biloba is supposedly healthy but it’s difficult to imagine anyone evertasting anything so foul …blech
A messy tree, but instead, he should make it up to Jackson’s memory by ABOLISHING THE FEDERAL RESERVE.
The closeup picture I saw of it from another angle did look like it was half gone & leaning quite a bit. So it probably is a safety concern.
I have one my grandfather planted about 50 years ago.
They are messy when they are flowering and they drop a lot of dead limbs. He wasn’t sure how it would do in Michigan winter but to his delight it has done well and provides very dense shade to sit under.
It’s outgrowing it’s space and I will have to bring it down or cut it back drastically.
At my age now I’m afraid removing it is the best choice.
And it’s leaves are tough, don’t like to be mulched and don’t break down naturally like others .
When they get wet it almost rejuvenates them. But the flowers are pretty.
We just took out 10-12 alders. They are a messy, useless tree also. And they don’t live long so they are a falling hazard on top of being messy and useless. I did save some pieces for smoking salmon. I guess they’re good for something.

Sugar Magnolia abides!
I had a neighbor in Maryland who had a overgrown Magnolia near the road. Beautiful when it bloomed but a mess with the dead leaves and flowers. No thanks, pine trees are bad enough.
We have a beautiful deciduous magnolia. No where near as messy as the standard magnolia, great pink/purple flowers, and the variety is named for a previous wonderful dog…Jane. Doesn’t grow to 50+ feet eirher.
Magnolias are a favorite of the Eastern south. I planted a 10′ Bracken’s Brown Beauty Magnolia in my yard about 17 years ago, it’s about 30 feet tall now. My wife loves the flowers and floats them in a glass dish when I bring one in. I don’t think they’re all that messy.
I also planted a Mimosa, I loved that tree but it only lasted 15 years. got to be about 30 or 40 feet. Sad day when we had to pull it out.
Truckbuddy – Mimosas are considered an invasive species in the south. If you process the bark on the roots, you can make DMT (30 minute LSD or so they say). We had a chocolate mimosa that didn’t last many years. Interesting plant with chocolate brown leaves and the same pink frilly flowers.
My brother and I helped our dad plant two magnolia trees in the front yard of the house where we grew up in 1962. They are still there and pretty dang big.
An Ex-Mississippi resident once explained that I’d cause the planting of a magnolia tree in MI. He explained that you dig the hole deeper than necessary, drop the body in and then puttee tree on top,
There is no such thing as a bad tree. The variety of trees available is awesome.
But every tree must be planted in a properly considered location.
