Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all ye lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations. – Psalms 100:1-5

Deu_4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. KJB
AMEN !!
Wisdom from The Book of Life, aka The Bible. There is much more where that came from. Thank you Heavenly Father for the blessings that you have bestowed upon your children.
I can’t think of a more appropriate Bible verse for Thanksgiving Day than this psalm. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, today is a great day to give thanks for all the blessings we have as Americans despite Biden. And don’t let the turkeys get to you.
Doesn’t it seem foolish to be thankful to a fictional being when I worked for the money to pay for the food, traveled to the store, and cooked it myself? Shouldn’t I be thankful to myself?
I’m curious if the children with cancer are obligated to be thankful for their condition as well.
@Magellan Thursday, 23 November 2023, 18:15 at 6:15 pm – “…Doesn’t it seem foolish to be thankful to a fictional being when I worked for the money to pay for the food, traveled to the store, and cooked it myself? Shouldn’t I be thankful to myself?…”
By all means. In your world view there is no greater being than yourself. So give yourself a pat on the back and and say I couldn’t have done without myself. For you my friend are greater than that fictional character others give thanks and praise to. In fact, build yourself an idol commemorating all pf the things you alone accomplished. Maybe a 30,000 s.f. house for starters.
The hands you work with came from the Lord.
The food you eat was set upon this Earth by the Lord.
The knowledge you use to cook it came from the Lord, and the heat you cooked it with had its source in the Lord many years before you used it, and the men who made it usable for you were also the Lord’s good creations, and even the air the fuel mixes with is a gift of God, known on this planet and no other.
You don’t need to be grateful to the Lord that created you any more than you need to be grateful to the mother who bore you or the father who raised you.
But that doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of your praise whether you give it or not.
As for suffering and illness, Man brought that into the world when he first turned from God, and the sin nature of man in his fallen state leaves him and his children susceptible to illness and subject to death. Job can offer pointers on how this should be dealt with.
But give thanks or not as you wish, and praise yourself if you like. But somehow I don’t think you’ll be calling on your own name when the inevitably of Death approaches you or your loved ones one day as well.
@Magellenic Circumnavigation Only Leads You Back To Where You Started –
Point well stated – much better than mine.
Does that mean the millions of people, children included, who have starved to death are excused from thanking god brokenly for creating them?
Hey thanks god for not starving me to death like you have to many others. Wasn’t Job tortured grievously his 10 children slaughtered to win a bet with the devil? Sounds pretty messed up to me.
Monotheism is Stockholm syndrome
10 And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
12 So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.
14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.
15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.
17 So Job died, being old and full of days.

‘…Monotheism is Stockholm syndrome…’
Hey, believe what want to about all of the senseless tragic deaths in the world. After the fall of Man, God never promised a perfect world on earth – only in Heaven. One of his greatest gifts – free will – is both a blessing and a curse, depending how it is used.
But hey, you are greater than He, so make your own destiny – absent God’s will.

Is that the “Pier de lento” for GWB?
or are you really biden?
Happy Thanksgiving Magellan. I hope the bitterness leaves you. May the love of GOD touch your soul.
@Magellan
A wise man once said:
“If you don’t believe God exists at all, about the only hope you have at all is that he not be there. That’s your hope – Maybe he’s not there. What we’re saying is ‘We trust that he is.”
Believe it or not bob, I do appreciate that presuming of course upon your sincerity of which I don’t doubt.
Amen bob frapples …. Happy Thanksgiving to all! & to all here that make this site the best on AlGore’s Amazing Internet
We give Thanks to the Lord for all He has done, from creating all the Universe, to this amazing world He has created for us to inhabit
…. & I pray for ‘Magellen’s’ immortal soul. may he/she find God & experience the joy and love of the Lord before he/she unwinds his/her mortal coil
I’m curious Magellan, do you believe in any higher power other than yourself?
Today I had Thanksgiving with my husband’s family (my husband died two years ago), I asked my SiL if she would read Psalm 100 because it is my favorite psalm. She was gracious enough to say she would but her husband had chosen another passage from the Bible. I declined her offer and came here (I don’t come too much any more) and here is Psalm 100! Then I read Magellan’s comments and the incredible statements made back to him. No insults from either side which is the way it should be and I will pray tonight for Magellan and for MJA for posting this psalm just for me. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season–Hannukah or Christmas.
Amen.
Happy and a blessed Thanksgiving to all.
Grateful.
Thank you Lord for this great country.
Magellan,
You’ve asked and stated the toughest questions and problems that have been wrestled with in every generation. Why all the suffering? And, if there is an all-powerful God, why doesn’t he do something to end all the suffering? Theological explanations often sound like a sort of long ago, far away mythology that wraps everything up and puts a bow on top of it. I get it. I get your anger at what appears to you to be total nonsense.
I wish I could give you a simple answer. It’s not that the answer is complicated, it’s not. It’s just that I’m not very good at simplifying it. But that’s never stopped me from making a hash of it: Humanity suffers because we won’t give up our love of sinning. We enjoy sinning and we don’t want to be called out on it, so we say things like “There is no God” or “If there is an all-powerful God, he wouldn’t allow suffering” or “If God is love, then he sure has a strange way of showing it”.
God doesn’t cause suffering. It’s caused by people who sin against God, against others and against innocent, helpless children. And God alleviates all kinds of suffering through those who love him and are called according to his purpose.
If you really want some answers to your questions about suffering, I would highly recommend: C.S. Lewis’s “Mere Christianity” as well as a really good explainer, John Lennox on “Why Suffering?” Lennox has an excellent presentation on YouTube. Just search “Lennox suffering”.
And keep reading your Bible.
All the best to you,
AA
Magellan, you better watch your back because you could wind up getting killed just like the real Ferdinand Magellan was by angry natives in the Philippines who resented him and his attempt to colonize the Philippines by the Spaniards. And God will not be mocked, you might be, but God won’t.
Amen…
to Abigail and to Magellan…
She is absolutely 100% correct, Sir. John Lennox and C. S. Lewis. Please head Abigail’s sage advice. On youtube at your convenience. And do it soon. Things seem to be winding towards the End Times predicted in Ezekiel, Daniel, Thessalonians and the Revalation. Seek (sincerely) and you will find.
geoff of aardvark, you’ve brought up an important point- the lost/sinner/those who reject God have in common – not realizing how short is this life and the finality;
2 Corinthians 4:18,
The Holy Bible, KJV
“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
Ecclesiastes 1:2 KJV
“Life is fleeting, like a passing mist. It is like trying to catch hold of a breath. All vanishes like a vapor; everything is a great vanity.”
Eternity is not a hapless void of no consciousness. The Godless refuse to accept eternity is an active existence – either with benevolence from God or malevolent torment by His cast out creature Satan, who by the way was angelic but chose to become demonic.
It all depends on their choice. The Godless can die knowing their creator, God or spending an hellish eternity separated from God.
Their denial of God’s existence has no relevance. The fact is God is real.
Psalm 14:1, KJV The Holy Bible speaks so directly to the sinner, yet they still shake their fists at God;
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
It’s simple – really. The corruption/destruction of man is not on God. Man chooses to rebel against God. Sinners are always puzzled by God allowing the horrible consequences to play out for hating and denying God. It’s not like God hasn’t warned man. In his mercy he has;
Romans 6:23 (Also, all of Romans 6), KJV
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”
The sinner in his puffed up pride so well demonstrated by Magellan’s statements refuse to listen. That’s not God’s fault.
God has given every man autonomy. We are not robots. We are free to make decisions on our own. What else would a creator want for His creation which He made in His image?
The Godless shout accusations at God as if He hasn’t been providing for them on this Earth which they didn’t create nor did they create themselves. God also gave His life through Christ for their eternal safety.
If anyone needs to humble themselves and submit to the reality of a true and loving God, it’s the Godless whose very life is in God’s hands.
99th Squad Leader, you are correct, as always!
My ‘go to’ response to people who say they can’t believe in a God who sends people to Hell: God is only doing what they ask. They want nothing to do with him, so the only place to go after death is Heaven or Hell. If a person rejects God, the only place they want to go is where God is not. Heaven is all Good, Truth, Peace, Justice, Love … everything God is. Hell is just the absence of God; everything NOT Good, Truth, Peace, Justice, and Love.
Exactly, Claudia. Great answer. Amen! I credit the Holy Spirit for my comments. I’m greatful for His inspiration.
AA I appreciate your response and yes I’ll keep at it.
