A man who admitted that he and a juvenile shot and killed two whooping cranes in 2016 must pay $85,000 and cannot hunt until he completes 360 hours of public service.
The sentence given Thursday to Kaenon Constantin of Rayne is the toughest ever in Louisiana for a crime involving one of the endangered birds, the International Crane Foundation said in a news release. More

Horse shit.
Considering what government pays for toilet seats or hammers, it could be more.
Wife’s cousin worked for Feds Fish & Wildlife (Crab Orchard) and they had one shot passing through (not normal to the area). Couldn’t prove the case but got them on other. Before they were done with the offenders about the only thing they walked away with was their underwear. Everything else was confiscated as used in the commission… (boat, guns, truck, etc.) Don’t screw with the Feds. Fish & Wildlife is like a god or law unto themselves and often used in airports as they need no warrants to do damn near anything they wish. DEA likes them a lot. Stories, lots of stories… (they moved him to South FL)
How much does it cost ten thousand bureaucrats to raise two whooping cranes? $188,000! They must mean whopping cranes, because that a real whopper.
$94,000 each to raise?! I don’t blame them.
Don’t they live in the wild?
How does it cost so much?
Don’t they get their own food?
Who determines the dollar amount?
The guberment is involved JD. It’s a wonder it wasn’t several million. The grifters have to make a living.
But I could put on a black hoodie and burn down a Federal Courthouse. No charge.
Government employee raising birds paid $94,750.00 leaving $250 for sardines to feed birds is probably the real numbers.
Maybe the International Crane Foundation divided the total number of birds bred by the total cost of the Federal grants and private dollars spent. Of course it includes per diem, travel, entertainment, accounting, training, office management, advertising, staff artists, public relations, janitorial and Muslim outreach costs.
But they are beautiful birds.
They have a limited hunting season here for Sand Hill Cranes. Magnificent flights go overhead. Why you might want to eat a long legged 10 lb bird (dressed out) that eats nothing but mud bugs and smells like pond scum perplexes me….ask a duck hunter….
I invented Whooping Cranes – which is why they cost so much.
Bill, Hill, Barry, and Mike all get kickbacks on each one raised.
Is there any bird you can legally shoot anymore? Our laws are so damn ridiculous. Owls and chicken hawks are a huge problem in my area, I was talking to a game warden one day about what I could do about them since I can’t shoot them. He went off on a long list of things I couldn’t do as it’s harassing them. I laughed and said we really have laws about harassing a damn bird?

You forgot hookers and cocaine. Seems like that is one constant when these programs are audited and end up in the newspaper.
@JDHasty – the hookers and blow costs were forever buried inside their ‘affirmative action program administrative expenses.’
Old Racist White Woman,
Shoot, Bag, and Bury.
Don’t brag. Don’t show pictures on fb. Don’t leave the carcass til tomorrow.
A guy round hereabouts asked the DNC about deer in his pasture. The DNC guy said he couldn’t kill em and eat em, but that he should shoot them in the stomach with a .22 and they’d wander off and die. The guy (my neighbor) said that sounded cruel – he had no intention of making the dumb beast suffer.
So he just let em (the deer) eat what they wanted.
Sick people out there.

^^^ that’s ’cause he called the DNC.
Shoulda called the DNR.
I suspect it probably cost pretty close to what the feds said. They aren’t talking about a couple of Food and Game wardens with binoculars keeping an eye on them to protect them from morons such as these two idiots but likely a facility with multiple departments (hatcheries, labs, nurseries etc) on a large area of land where the cranes like to nest staffed with wardens, vets, bird specialists and yes, a few bureaucrats filling out forms and swatting mosquitoes. The whooping Crane has been one of the few success stories where people have taken an animal on the edge of extinction and giving it a chance to survive and thrive in a world with a lot more dangers now then fifty years ago. The sentence does sound a little stupid unless both these two twats have to wear ankle monitors for the five years of probation. What possible reason could these two have for potting two of the highest profile endangered birds in the world? Morons.
Remember the three S’s….Shoot, Shovel and Shut Up.
It was here in Louisiana? Likely the two guys were named Boudreaux and Thibodeaux.
No point in shooting whooping cranes, they are harmless. Save your ammo and shoot feral hogs. Up here in Gods country folks practice the 3 S’s on wolves that the idiot environazis reintroduced.
Three thousand unborn children were killed that same day.
Assholes like that make a solid argument for the left about guns. Fucking idiots!
No better than the Chinese: Da, they’re on the endangered list, they must be good eating!
I live just miles from their winter feeding grounds. They are beautiful. I recently saw an episode of Lone Star Law where they discovered a dead one just south of me in the salt grass wetlands. After the investigation, they decided that a coyote had killed it.
At $94,000, they better not taste like chicken…
It’s all good, dude makes 95k a minute on the interweb don’t cha know…
