DailyMailUK: An asteroid set to narrowly miss Earth could cause ‘immense suffering and death’ years later if its orbit is changed when it passes dangerously near to our planet.
The space rock, called Bennu, crosses Earth’s orbit once every six years and is set to pass between the moon and our planet in 2135.
Scientists are worried the 500-metre wide asteroid’s orbit could be tweaked by Earth’s gravity as it passes by, causing it to smash into our planet later in the century.
Would this be SMOD?
If you read the story, you’ll realize that Bill Clinton has been always looking for a piece of asteroid everywhere he went. Occasionally, he got lucky.
Since we have a little over 100 years to get ready for it, I say we capture it. Why not? They’re already talking about mining asteroids, what better chance would we have to get an asteroid of our very own?
Gee Wally , can’t we just tie a leash to it so the Earth can have a pet asteroid!
Paint a big orange smiley face on it like that volcano.
Could possibly hit Earth late in the 21st century, huh? Well, I guess I’ll just have to worry about that when the time comes…
😛
Wowsers! Since I’ll then be 187 years old, I’m gonna go spend my money NOW!
Which airhead on CNN, do you think is going to be the first to ask if this asteroid is caused by global warming?
My money’s on Costello.
I hope it hits Chicago first
Carve it into the shape of a gun, invoke the zero-tolerance policy, then just ban it. Problem solved!
