More pilot whales were found stranded in Australia on Wednesday, raising the estimated total to nearly 500, including 380 that have died, in the largest mass stranding ever recorded in the country.
Authorities had already been working to rescue survivors among an estimated 270 whales found Monday on a beach and two sand bars near the remote coastal town of Strahan on the southern island state of Tasmania.
Another 200 stranded whales were spotted from a helicopter on Wednesday less than 10 kilometers (6 miles) to the south, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service Manager Nic Deka said. More

ok, I have to admit that my first reaction was, “why do they call them ‘pilot’ whales when they’re beaching themselves”?
but, it’s a tragic situation that we cannot explain … particularly w/ the ridiculous excuse of ‘man-made climate’. species survive or die according to God’s plan … not ours
… & we are late arrivals in that plan
Ironically-named creatures.
@ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ Haha… I was thinking the same thing at the same time.
Whales breath air – I see no apparent reason for them to die on land initially. They would die eventually from starvation as they would not be able to hunt and kill anything on land as far as I can tell.
Maybe they were suffering from the Jonestown Syndrome.
i read that with the magnetic poles are moving so rapidly that it screws up their migrating capabilities.
This just goes to prove that pilot whales need co-pilot whales.
Maybe they are following a leader using GPS, instead of relying on their natural navigation skills?
Naval sonar is a likely cause. Must be very painful for an echo locating mammal.
Hmm, are they protesting something?, showing solidarity with certain human movements, trying to get on land for some rioting ?. Just a thought. 😉
Whale oil be fluked.
my guess- disorientation due to sonar and greatly increased submarine activity in the south china sea
this is sad
If the ocean’s are rising, how can they beach themselves? There shouldn’t be any beaches left….
