McConnell Signals That Republicans Prepared To Use Nuclear Option

Fox

“We’re going to get Judge Gorsuch confirmed this week,” McConnell, R-Ky., told “Fox News Sunday.”

Republicans have 52 senators in the chamber and will need the support of eight Democrats to get Gorsuch confirmed in a straight floor vote.

Without Democratic support, McConnell could get Gorsuch confirmed with a parliamentary maneuver known as the “nuclear option,” which would break the filibuster and get him confirmed on a simple 51-vote majority.

McConnell said Sunday that Gorsuch “deserves to be confirmed” and “will ultimately be confirmed.” But he would not commit to using the so-called nuclear option, arguing he’s still not sure how Democrats will vote.

  1. Before you break out the nukes there, tooter, why not send a few “snipers” in. I’m pretty sure some nuclear waste can be found stuffed up a few dems asses.

  2. Finally. When the vote occurs and if any filibuster occurs or they fail to get the 60 votes then he should immediately without holding a news conference, without talking to either his own party or the Democrats start the process the change the house rules and force a simple majority vote as soon as possible. In the meantime the GOP members along with Trump and Pence should hit the media and lay the blame for this directly on the Dems and especially Schumer pointing out that he tried to hold up Bush nominees for no good reason other then to score political points. Dirty up Schumer as much as possible and warn the Dems that when the next opening on the court comes up the WH will again choose a well qualified candidate but will not put up with these purely political attacks again.

  3. McConnell, can’t trust him to do the right thing or correct thing. He’s sitting there calculating how bad CNN and the NY Times and Wash Post are going to trash him if he uses the nuclear option. He won’t have 8 Democrats to vote for Gorsuch. There might be 2 or 3 who will vote for him just because of reelection in 2018. Any of them who vote for Gorsuch without Schumer’s prior approval are going to get torched.

Just like anybody who dares to meet with Trump. They will be ostracized by the Regressive community.

That’s hen shit. Wymynz give hints about shit.

Say what you mean, mean what you say.
    Put up or shut up.

And it’s the “Reid Option” not the “Nuclear Option” for all you McConnell-ite pussy banana-eaters.

    izlamo delenda est …

  5. Over the past 150 years it’s the Dems who have fought to keep the filibuster and the GOP that tried not to upset Senate tradition by nuking it.

Dems used the filibuster for 100 years to thwart every civil rights bill, preserve Jim Crow and segregation. Since 1964, they’ve used it repeatedly when they were a minority party but GOP has used it only a handful of times.

This used to be called the “constitutional option” because the Constitution requires only a majority vote in the Senate for all but treaties and Constitutional amendments. That sounds too benign and reasonable which is why disinformation leftist dems renamed it the “nuclear option”.

If any Republicans disagree with using it they’re showing their Establishment/uniparty roots. History shows GOP has maintained the supermajority requirement only to be respectful of Democrats wishes but reduced the number of votes needed each time the argument came up. No reason to be respectful now since it was the Democrats who launched the first nuke.

  6. I saw Tutor Turtle with democrat Chris Wallace this morning on Fox News.
He’s as good as any democrat at not answering questions directly…and does it with a mouthful of marbles and as many chins as the “architect” of disaster, Karl Rove.

  7. I’ve said this before, if a qualified jurist like Gorsuch cannot be approved then nobody can be. Withdrawal will just signal to the Dems that they can keep the seat open for at least 2 years until the next Senate. Partisanship was never, ever like this unless perhaps leading up to the Civil War. If the nuclear option is necessary then it must be used, as otherwise nothing will ever, ever get passed.
