Following a temporary shut down of more than 800 restaurants in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, McDonald’s has announced it will leave Russia altogether following a three-decade run in the country.
The fast-food burger chain will sell its Russian business – citing the war in Ukraine and the subsequent “unpredictable operating environment” as reasons that led the company to “conclude that continued ownership of the business in Russia is no longer tenable, nor is it consistent with McDonald’s values.”
Once the sale of the company’s Russian businesses is finalized, the chain restaurants in Russia will be “de-Arched,” meaning the locations will no longer be permitted to use the McDonald’s name, logo, or menu. The company says its employees will continue to be paid until the transaction closes and that they will have “future employment with any potential buyer.” more

Wokeness and doing government bidding is more important than profits. McD’s leaving Russia is almost as stupid as BP leaving over $30 Billion behind in Russia, literally 1/3 of their entire market cap.
NOT doing business and NOT making profits or collecting revenue is NOT in the best interest of shareholders. They should all be sued, gutted, and whatever lawyers don’t take divvy up amongst shareholders. If we have any resemblance to a capitalist economy that’s exactly what would happen. It’s been nearly 40 yrs since I’ve eaten at McD’s. They could leave the planet and I wouldn’t notice if it wasn’t shouted out in the media.

Why doesn’t Russia confiscate US companies and their land? If the US is giving money to Ukraine to fight them. Then why not. Italy took possession of yachts that Russian citizens own.

I admit I can’t keep up with whose woke and who isn’t. I don’t eat at McDonalds, nor do I have any stock in McDonald’s. I think McDonalds sees the handwriting on the wall with food and the logistics of getting it to their restaurants in Russia. War can be the excuse, but I believe it goes deeper than that.

McDonald’s main value is to make tons of profits. They’ll be back in Russia when the smoke clears. This is all just cheap theatre for ignorant leftists to swallow.
They opened their first outlet in Russia back in 1990 when it was still the Soviet Union, our big enemy during the cold war. This was just a few years after their Afghan misadventure, after they had shot down a Korean (or Japanese) airliner, proxy wars in Africa, and decades of threats against western Europe and America. Nothing stopped McDonald’s in 1990 from doing business in Russia.
It’s so phony.
