Medical school removes portraits of ‘old, white’ former deans in name of ‘diversity’

college fix-

Canada’s Dalhousie University Medical School has taken down portraits of its former “old” and “white” deans because they are “no longer representative of the school’s student body.”

According to Do No Harm, Dean of Medicine David Anderson announced the move in a mid-July message regarding the school’s “Valuing People” initiative.

The initiative “focuses on our belief that people and culture can set us apart, and if we start with a ‘people first’ approach, anything is possible,” Anderson wrote. “To do this, we must focus on creating positive, safe, and inclusive environments for people to thrive.”

Anderson (pictured) noted the school had heard from “students, faculty, and staff that they do not always feel welcome” in the foyer of the Tupper Building due to the portraits — they are “dominated by senior male white leaders.”

The dean noted the historical figures do “not represent our current student body and the diversity of communities our Faculty has a responsibility to serve.”

  1. Disgusting.

So, I expect that universities with renowned science departments will take down portraits of Kepler, Copernicus, Galileo, Newton, Maxwell, Einstein, Bohr, Hubble, etc., because they’re all old white guys. What rubbish.

They may retain pictures of Madam Curie, (who I have the utmost respect for – 2 Nobel prizes for science) because she’s female, and therefore must have been oppressed. Anybody who wants to learn about science has to read what the above mentioned gentlemen (and women) accomplished.

The world is a repulsive place now.

  2. When I started Medical School in 1970, the auditorium was lined with previous deans, all white. At that time there was not as much emphasis on skin color and the black students didn’t care. We were to busy listening as after 4 years of college and trying to get anything above 3.2, before grade inflation, we were listening to one of these old men tell use that the class size was 120 and they only had room for 90 in the 2nd year. If you failed, you automatically went into the military as a corpsman, life expectancy was 6 months. After 4 years of that, we all looked the same, even the blacks.

  3. My Alma Mater.

Halifax always had a streak of the nutty.

Way back in the 1980s I believe it was, a Halifax bus driver ordered an elderly woman off the bus because a passenger complained that her perfume was too strong.

In order to make more room for one Protected Group, they have to make less room for another (can you say “white male patriarchy”?) group.

Also makes me NOT want to be seen by any “doctors” that recently graduated from Dalhousie. Not that I go to the doctor’s for any reason now.
