Meet Obama Holdovers Still in Trump’s Government

Breitbart:

Despite his promises to “drain the swamp” and sweeping out the Barack Obama-era bureaucrats from all levels of the federal government, President Donald Trump and his administration have found it difficult to complete the process even after two months in office.

According to the New York Times:

When President Trump’s new Middle East envoy began haggling over the details of an agreement with Israel to curb construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, they turned to a politically improbable adviser: Yael Lempert, a 43-year-old diplomat who worked on the issue in Barack Obama’s White House.

When Mr. Trump met with the leaders of Japan, Britain and Canada, he included Thomas A. Shannon Jr., another career diplomat, who rose to the No. 3 post in Mr. Obama’s State Department. And when Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson traveled to Turkey this past week to rally support for the military campaign against the Islamic State, he took along Brett H. McGurk, who coordinated that effort as Mr. Obama’s special envoy.  more here

  1. “Personnel is Policy”

If President Trump hasn’t gotten rid of the diseased maggots infesting the Gov’t, it’s because he has chosen NOT to.

Sorry, but that’s the way it is. His failure to rid us of the ObolaCare Abomination is a case in point – as is his retention of Koskinen and the reluctance to prosecute Lerner in the face of the overwhelming evidence of corruptions and malfeasance. His calculus MUST be that it will all be useful in the future – corrupt toadies will do his bidding to stay out of jail – the “Repeal and Replace” bullshit will amass $Billions for his political cronies – and the Americans can be placated with window-dressing.

(I understand that half a loaf is better than no loaf – but let’s try to be honest)

  2. Unfortunately, government employees are extremely difficult to fire. It can take months even with good documentation of their performance or lack of it.

  3. @Retired Bubblehead – see my comment at 10:22.

If it takes that long even without an appeal, the first thing you do is take away their badges and keys, change their passwords, deactivate their user IDs and email accounts, and put their phone numbers in inactive intercept status.

  4. Not even 90 days in. Patience is a virtue. I trust Trump on this. It’s far better that Trump get rid of these bad actors for cause (as he just did Kate Walsh and Sally Yates) than to appear arbitrary along party lines. The average person/voter will charge he’s merely another partisan president and that will not help break down the walls between party voters. Trump runs a very, very tight ship. He’s placed extremely competent people at the heads of these departments, too. He will let them do their jobs but I have no doubt everybody knows who everybody is and, probably unbeknownst to the holdover, the holdover is on a very short leash. Like Roz in Monsters, Inc., Trump is “always watching.”

  5. He needs to do to every single Obama appointee what he did to the Obama-appointed Justice Dept prosecutors – FIRE every single damn one of them.

    “You’re Fired!”

Then let the career senior bureaucrat in each dept run things temporarily until Pres Trump can get his own peeps in there.
