Mississippi governor signs law allowing church members to carry guns

WT: JACKSON, Miss. — Gov. Phil Bryant signed a bill Friday that allows some members of churches to undergo firearms training so they can provide armed security for their congregations.

The Church Protection Act specifies that those designated can carry guns into church buildings and gives them legal protections. It also allows people to carry holstered weapons without a permit.

Only two states — Georgia and North Dakota — prohibit all guns from places of worship, said Taylor Maxwell, a spokesman for Everytown for Gun Safety, which advocates for gun control laws. Eight states prohibit concealed carry permit holders from carrying guns into places of worship; other states leave it up to the place of worship.  more here

  1. @TheMule – Do you really want a law that prohibits you and your congregants from having an arsenal in your church if you decide that’s a good idea? It isn’t the arsenal, it’s what you use it for that matters.

  2. “BTW, aren’t they the least bit concerned that muslims will use such a law to justify turning mosques into arsenals?”

Muzzies didn’t wait for the O.K. to turn their Mosques into Bunkers. They’re already armed to the teeth.
Several organizations/consultants now specialize in church security including armed members.

  3. But wait! There’s more!

Mississippi is now a Constitutional Carry state, and the state will say “PIss off!” to any new Federal gun control laws that they feel are unconstitutional.

  4. The governor has no right to sign a law ‘allowing’ the bearing of arms.
It is illegal for a law to exist in the first place that infringes upon the right to bear arms.

  5. Re: the point that Muslims will now be able to arm up too. True enough but that argument fails for the same reason all gun control arguments fail. What criminals do or don’t do should have no bearing on what law abiding citizens can do.
