This is a huge scandal. The general manager and manager of the Astros have been fired. The Astros have lost 1st and 2nd round draft picks and been fined heavily.
The manager and general manager came very close top being banned for life, and they could still be because they are on permanent probation.
Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch were fired by owner Jim Crane Monday following Major League Baseball’s announcement of discipline in the sign-stealing scandal.
A league investigation confirmed the Astros had cheated by using a camera-based sign-stealing system during the regular season and playoffs of their World Series-winning 2017 season.
Luhnow and Hinch were suspended for the 2020 season, but Crane said the team wanted to go beyond that ruling.
“We need to move forward with a clean slate,” he said.
As part of the league’s penalty, the Astros will also lose first- and second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021, and the organization was fined a record $5 million. MLB said in its statement that if Luhnow or Hinch “engage in any future material violations” of MLB rules, they will be placed on the league’s permanently ineligible list.
Where are the sanctions against the players who participated in the cheating?
Say it ain’t so, Joe. Say it ain’t so!
Not a good day for Houston sports fans. Not only are the Astros big time cheaters but the Houston Texans just blew a 24-0 lead in their nfl playoff game and lost by 20 points.
The real Houston oilers beat the top seen Cleveland Browns
Congratulations to the 2017 World Champion Dodgers!
I don’t get it.
If a camera could see the “signs” then so could the players – sounds like Luddite-ism to me.
(bear in mind, I know nothing of baseball)
Some guy throws a ball, another guy hits it, another catches it, and then throws it back.
“Who’s on First?”
izlamo delenda est …
Well, it could have been worse. At least the manager and general manager didn’t get put on double secret permanent probation.
😉
@Tim – the runner standing on second base isn’t allowed to look either. 🙂
What if their signs mean the same thing as ours?
Everybody knows what an extended middle finger means, no need for expensive camera and software to figger out.
Tom Brady and the Patriots could not be reached for comment as they were busy laughing their asses off.
Give ’em double secret probation!
Sports,ha, ain’t nothing sporting about playing with a ball.
These pussys would never have made it in the golden age of NASCAR.
every team steals signs …. been going on since before I learned it in Little League (… a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away)
the problem w/ the Astros was that they were relaying pitches to batters by (obvious) noise signals from their dugout
it ain’t that they did it … it’s that they got caught
Back when NASCAR was the NATIONAL pastime of the Confederacy, the unofficial motto was, “If you ain’t cheatin’, you ain’t TRYIN’!” 😉
The Japanese and Germans now claim they are the real winners of WWII because the Allies cheated and cracked their codes. Not sure where the scandal is. If you are stupid enough to be so lazy that the opposition cracks your signs and uses it against you then perhaps you deserve to lose. And even if you knew a curve was coming, you still have to have talent to hit the damned thing.
um … let’s stop to think …. first off, it ain’t life & death. it’s a game; it has ‘rules’
aaaaaaaaand, they only did it in their own stadium where they set up specific cameras to check the signals & relayed them to a computer monitor in the alcove next to their dugout to relay noise signals to the batters. therefore, the opposition is at a disadvantage throughout the game (& war ain’t no game)
aaaaaaaaand, … when you know something slow, like a curveball or change-up is coming, you can wait on it (‘tee it up’, so to speak) … not so w/ a fastball … but I guess that’s all good for the home team, huh?
I thought the MLB was honest, like boxing, but now I know it’s fixed, like Olympic figure skating. 🙁
and don’t forget to tip your pitches….
