Update: My buddy Toby is dying slowly – Charlie Walks on Water

Our buddy, Charlie, has lost his buddy.

We closed a chapter on our lives here today. We had to put Toby Tornado down. Tears have been shed for days as we contemplated this but it had to be done.

We were very grateful to have had him in our lives. All dogs go to heaven and he’s up there enjoying life again. – CWOW

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It hurts.
I am pleading with God to touch my little Toby Tornado.
The photo is when he was a pup, but now he’s approaching 13.5 yr old.
He’s led a full life, but he has Cushing’s Disease, a pituitary tumor, and has lost one fourth of his weight the last month.
He staggers when he walks and will not eat enough no matter what I put down. He gets dog vitamins and antibiotic and homeopathic drugs that control the symptoms, but he wont eat.
If the IOTW family would pray for God to touch him or let him go peacefully soon I’d appreciate it. – Charlie Walks On Water
  3. Dear Lord, we thank You and praise You for sending us small souls to be our loving companions and loyal friends here on Earth, vessels that show a true measure of Your love, enrich our lives, and increase our understanding of partings in life. Lord, we come before You in supplication for little Toby, a small sweet soul that needs Your touch. Please Lord, relieve Toby’s pain, shrink the tumor, restore to Toby the pleasure of eating, and grant that Your will, be it for healing or homegoing, be swift and soft upon Toby, that Toby and the human You entrusted him to may feel Your grace and Your mercy upon him both. Touch too our brother Charlie, ease him in the knowledge that he has done all that could be for this precious life, and that his dear companion will be healed and returned to him, either here or in Heaven, and that he and Toby will always enjoy one another’s companionship no matter what as it is truly a measure of Your love. Let him know too that all us in his online family share his pain, have seen it with our own fur babies, and that the Lord has seen we and they through these crisis times and turned the unbearable instead into love and hope for a future where we will be reunited by and by.
    We place these burdens before You as You ask, and joyously await the fulfillment of Your word in prayer and in hope, and we ask Your mercy in the precious name of Jesus, amen
    God Bless,
  4. Oh my gosh– he could be the twin of my sweet Bodie, who crossed when he was 14. I pray for a miracle for Toby but if that is not to be granted, then I pray that Bodie will be right there to show him the way.
  5. My buddy, Sherlock, went quickly and quietly, but our first York, Treasure, lived 16 years and went through several years of dementia before she died of a stroke.
    Anything over 10 years is a gift. Just be glad you had him at all.
  6. The unconditional love that dogs give us (and that we give in return) is very hard to part with.
    The one dog we had was with us for 18 years.
    18 years of love and fun. We cherish the memories!
  7. I had a beagle that lived to 19 years and his happiest moments near the end were when he would slip out the door and attempt to run free or rather, limpingly hobble down the sidewalk, I could walk behind and keep up.
  8. Charlie, I’m praying for you and for Toby. This is so hard. No matter the pain or confusion he is feeling, he knows you love him and he trusts you.
    Lord God, please bless little Toby with peace and comfort. Bless Charlie with the knowledge that Toby will be in good hands and will soon be at rest. Thank you for the years of love and joy they had together. Let Charlie rest in that memory. Amen
    SNS, that prayer…..
    All your prayers, your thoughts and words is a comfort. I dont know what to say.
  10. Charlie WalksonWater.
    I seem to recall your handle is about what you hope to do with the Lord one day.
    I would wonder if you could walk Toby on water, but then I remember that with God, all things are possible.
    So the three of you Charlie, Jesus, and Toby, will be walking the River of Life together one day.
    I lost my Mini recently to Time’s depredations too, slowly, as you are seeing. My heart breaks for you because I know.
    But I also know my Mini will be there to greet Toby when his time does come. You should warn him that she’s 3 pounds of sheer bossiness who could make Boxers and Pit Bulls quake, and she’s probably pretty used to her spot at the Lord’s feet now, so he should be thinking about making freinds with her, too. She’s very loving, they should get on well.
    Perhaps we’ll see, one day…
  12. When you get to heaven Toby will be waiting. God made dogs short lived so they can be waiting for us in heaven,
    Words cannot describe the loss but I rest assured knowing every pup I have ever loved (and there have been many) will be there to give me what I call smoothie belle grandes…
  13. i am bluest of blue today. As pet owners, we know these days will come, I’ve lost many and it never gets easier. I dont want to have Toby put down, but he’s not in pain, doesnt moan, he shakes and is weak from not eating. The last month i’ve given him meds and nutrients but the only change is he gets weaker.
    I know God will place him in heaven to patiently wait for me, right next to all my other faithful companions.
    thanks to all.
  14. Charlie – will Toby even try to eat raw meat, like hamburger or steak? I’ve heard stories that is what got some dogs to eat again. I’m only saying this if you still haven’t decided on taking him to the vet just yet.
  15. A very difficult time for you, Charlie… Toby’s love will always be with you, and yours will always be with him. I hope that will give you a tiny bit of peace.
  16. My thoughts and prayers are with you CWW as I know the hurt of losing a long-term fur baby, but take heart in this.
    The Lord sent you a measure of His love in a small, furry package almost 14 years ago, and it was time to return it today as nothing in this world ia forever, only that in His kingdom is eternal.
    But no work of the Lord returns void.
    You were blessed with a wonderful companion for all those years, a furry shoulder to cry on, an entertaining little jester to laugh with, a sweet soul to sit with you in peace and a brave heart to warn you of danger.
    Your freind was too good for this world though, and taken up to be released from his pain and his weary body by a merciful God, but beyond the Rainbow Bridge lies more than memory, and there your Toby awaits, merrily sporting at the feet of the Lord until you lay down your trophies at the last and join him.
    Love never dies, and neither did your Toby, he just moved on, and one day you will as well.
    Take heart.
    You will meet again.
    God bless,
  17. Charlie WalksonWater,
    Toby truly had a wonderful life which you made possible. In return, Toby gave you years of joy and love. Your time together was fulfilled.
    Try not to see Toby’s departure as a loss, but a completion of journey full of memories to cherish.
    Be blessed and know the peace of God – always.
  18. Dogs touch us to our core because a dog’s love is open, honest, and sacrificial. Kinda like the way Jesus loves us.
    I think a lot of the pain we feel is because we can never measure up to the pure love a dog gives routinely because we are fallen creatures and dogs are not.
    God gave us dogs to remind us that true love, loyalty, and devotion is a gift to be treasured. They are to good to be allowed long lives with us.
    Bless you all on your grief and pain. Dogs rest at the feet of God.
  19. I’m so old my tearducts don’t work so well anymore. My eyes fill but won’t release the tears. In my heart I cry for your pain as I remember releasing our 4th GSD almost 2 years ago. 💔
    You are in the palm of God’s mighty hands and I look forward to meeting you someday with all our pups around us in a happy frolic around the throne of Jesus. (C. S. Lewis believed that and it’s a great comfort to me.)
  20. CWW,
    If Toby hasn’t already gone “home”, pray for his release from this mortal body and its pain. That’s the best thing that you can do for him.
  21. hey everyone.
    Its barely time for breakfast here and I gotta tell ya it was a rough night. We had a wonderful family ceremony for Toby as we returned his Spirit to Gods hands and his body to the soil. I dug a grave for him a couple weeks ago knowing his time was short so things were prepared. We shared stories of his antics and his defense of his family.
    Thanks for all the wonderful, kind words of comfort. God has a place for Toby Tornado as he does for all animals and its knowing that he is again full of joy and free of the ailments that wear us down.
    I will introduce all of you to him when we get together in Heaven.
  22. Charlie,
    Condolences on the death of your family member Toby; he’ll be waiting for you at the bridge when your time comes. The Mighty Odin went home two years ago …I miss him still.
  23. Charlie, I’m so sorry for you and your family. This is such a horrid experience to go through. I’ve been through it more times than I can remember, but the dearest ones to you stay with you. You will, sometime, change from mourning to joy when you remember him and what he has meant to you. It will always be sad at times, those times diminish as you let your joyful memories give you peace.
    I will pray for your comfort as you continue to hurt and cry. Let yourself heal gently as you allow yourself to grieve for as long as you need. Take comfort that your friends here love you and grieve with you.
