NASCAR Driver Uses Insane Video Game Move To Qualify on Last lap

Ross Chastain deliberately went into the wall, took his hands off the wheel and floored it in 5th gear.

He hugged the wall at an insane speed and passed enough cars to qualify for Championship Race 4.

Where did he get the idea? From his brother, who used to beat him in video games with this maneuver.

  1. I’m some what shocked this showed up here. Not the demographics. Hilarious shit. Rubbing is racing, but you absolutely should not use the fence as a berm. That’s an outside line alright. As outside as one can get.

  2. That was an incredible move.
Complete balls to the wall, literally.

But until they treat Bubba “Smollett” Watson like every other driver (Fairly) they can rub salt instead.

  3. Carl Edwards once tried a similar move to beat Jimmie Johnson, except he hit the wall too hard. I want to say it was at Kansas. He told Jimmie later that he did it on purpose as he had done it in video games and thought he would give it a try.

  4. Here’s how the racing community is processing this.Personally I totally agree. Dude race for several hours. His crew can’t get any handles on the car. Can’t get any power to the ground. So the way you place is on the last lap pin the throttle, let go of the wheel so you don’t snap your arm, and let your roll cage win the race for you. That’s bull shit. He should be DQ’d.

  5. That’s not exactly how it happened Brad. He was steering the whole time…..I would imagine that move has been done before at Martinsville because how the wall would feed you out and it’s a short course so it ain’t far to the finish, Hasn’t been done at Martinsville at a televised NASCAR race….Forget it Jake, it’s Martinsville….

I can post interviews with the guy for you where he claims he let go of the wheel so he wouldn’t break his arm. Common shit for formula one driver. Ask Dana, she’ll tell you all about it. Not sure where you read he was steering all the time but that;s not even practical or logical.

  7. Also, not sure what track this was. Looks to long to me for a Martinsville. Looks more like a Fontana. Maybe a bit shorter. I had the most awesome experience of driving Fontana for two days. Ran into some great people.

  8. I watched the race Brad. I saw him steering the car, he had to glue it to the wall somehow, but I’ll look for his interview. It’s Martinvile the shortest track on NASCAR at 1/2 mile…..Hell, the video shows him steering otherwise he would have shot to the bottom of the track….

I have never driven a race car but I’ve driven plenty of big trucks and you always keep your thumbs to the outside of the steering wheel so you don’t break your thumb/arm….

  9. This is what Chasten said….”I grabbed fifth gear. I asked off of (Turn) 2 on the last lap if we needed it, and we did. I couldn’t tell who was leading. And I just made the choice, I grabbed fifth gear down the back and full committed. Once I got against the wall I basically let go of the wheel, just hoped I didn’t catch the Turn 4 access gate or something crazy. But I was willing to do it.”….

Basically is the critical word here…
