After creating havoc in the power and natural gas markets, the next commodity sector causing concern in Texas is the state’s enormous oil refining industry, where installations are being forced offline by the big freeze. The largest refineries in North America were shutting down Monday because of arctic conditions that have cut electricity, water and fuel supplies across Texas. More than 3 million barrels of daily oil-processing capacity has been idled in the wake of the record-setting cold, according to consultant Energy Aspects Ltd. More

  2. I guess I might just have to put another log on the fire.

    My Toy Hauler has a 50 gallon fueling station tat the gen taps into and people ask me why I pump what is in it into my vehicles at the end of hunting season and put fresh gasoline in it every winter before storing it until spring.

    I can pull up beside it and fill my vehicles tank up a couple times, or move in and run the gen for a four months and fairly comfortably if it comes to that.

  3. Oil refineries and petrochemical plants are remarkable places. I spent 35 years operating them and keeping them running. Keeping them running in very cold weather was the most daunting work I ever did other than getting them running again after cold weather disables them. Most people have no idea of the complexity of those plants.
