“Native American” is Simply Another in a Long Line of Asinine Liberal Terms

Ed Straker, writing for American Thinker, has made excellent points regarding the term “Native American.”

-The term “Native American” implies the rest of us aren’t Native American.
-The term “Native Americans” is also ridiculous in that ancestors of these individuals were present before America was formed.
-American Indians (as they used to be called) never referred to themselves as “Native Americans” in the 17th, 18th or 19th century. They referred to themselves by the names of their tribes. They never saw themselves as one people. So the name liberals have given them refer to a group that never considered itself to be a group.

  1. How about Pre-Columbian/American Indians?

This is just more, and always has been, GROUP think and word control and minipulation on the part of the Neo-Liberals and Leftists.

Like African American or Latino American. Believe me don’t confuse a Puerto Rican and a person from the Dominican Repubublic…or for that matter never confuse and Irishman for an Englisman!! Results are not good!

NATIVE New Yorker…ova here-ra and family has been here since 1850, in NYC that is…that was after leaving a shithole!

  2. Why is Straker picking on the indians? Are “African-Americans” off limits?

I get the essay’s idea about occupying the moral high ground implied by the “We were here first” claim. But the tribes today do not reflect the tribes that were originally here. The indians pushed and shoved and warred their way to the tribes we know today, so they weren’t necessarily here first, either. D’Souza makes a large point of how the Left assigns pecking order based on skin color using this example. Same thing for Latinos, Hispanics and Mexicans. Some who came here would have been considered oppressed in their native land and some would have been the oppressors. But both come to the U.S. What do we do about that? I have to laugh every time I hear Horowitz bring up the “of color” moniker, too. His disgust is palpable when he says, “That’s not even English — it’s French — to say something that way.” And the “of color” label is also intended to assign a magical nobility and honor simply because of melanin content.

The Nazi’s weren’t even as racist as the American Left.

  7. I have two sons that are blue-eyed redheads. Approximately 2% of the world’s population has red hair. The smallest fraction of all redheads are those with blue eyes. You people are racist ginger haters. I just know it.

  8. Being part Cherokee Indian, I have never used and will never use the term Native American, it’s stupid and has been stupid since they started using it. The same as it’s stupid all these schools and universities with names like Redmen, Chieftains, Savages, etc. changed their name because it was offensive. Outside of liberal Indians I’ve never heard an Indian say they were offended and a liberal Indian is like a black liberal or a white liberal, always looking to be a victim.
