NBA Sells Sneakers From Chinese Company Suspected of Using Uyghur Forced Labor

Several NBA stars have signature shoes with Chinese brand Anta.

The National Basketball Association sells sneakers on its online store from a Chinese company that uses cotton produced in Xinjiang, a region where China coerces Uyghur Muslims into forced labor.

The NBA sells at least two basketball shoes made by Anta Sports, China’s largest sportswear brand, which has pledged to source cotton from China’s Xinjiang region. One of the shoes—known as the “Klaytheism” for Golden State Warriors superstar Klay Thompson—comes in various models and runs up to $119.99.

In March, the Chinese company said it has “always bought and used cotton produced in China, including Xinjiang cotton” and “will continue to do so.” Western countries have raised concerns that cotton produced in Xinjiang, where China detains more than a million Uyghur Muslims in reeducation camps, is tainted with forced labor. According to a December BBC Report, China is forcing more than 500,000 ethnic minorities, the majority of whom are Uyghurs, to harvest cotton in Xinjiang, which produces 20 percent of the world’s cotton and 85 percent of China’s cotton.

At least three NBA stars have worn the Anta brand in recent years, including Thompson, Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward, and Los Angeles Clippers guard Rajon Rondo. All three players have signature shoes with the company. more

  3. You gotta be le Bron stupid to pay hundreds of dollars for over-priced tennis shoes (BTW, whutta racket…) regardless of politics!!

  4. Bring back Keds and Red ball jets. I’m assuming that since these sneakers were made in a different age when I was a kid that they weren’t made in chink land. I also can’t stand Converse because they have no arch support and kill my feet.

  5. They are also FORCED to build their SOLAR PANELS in 4 huge factories in the region.

  6. When I was a little bitty baby my momma would rock me in the cradle, in those ol chi comm re education camps back home.

  7. Basketball – the second favorite Communist Sport, the first is killing millions of people.

  8. I may be the only one, but I am really not that upset at the Chinese plan to eradicate muslimes from their country.

I do understand making lefties play by their own rules though – and that is good.

Without the death and slavery the Chinese employ, I would also not be against removing muslimes from the USA.

    Just a thought and opinion.
