Donald Trump campaign fires back: We paid to use Neil Young’s song.
Neil Young isn’t too happy with Donald Trump.
The New York real estate mogul arrived on stage at his campaign kickoff announcement Tuesday as the sounds of Young’s “Rockin’ In The Free World” blared through the atrium at Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan.
The only problem? Young blasted the Republican candidate following his announcement, with the rocker claiming Trump didn’t have permission to use the music.
“Donald Trump was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement,” a statement from Young’s team released late Tuesday read. “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States of America.”
However, when FOX411 reached Trump’s campaign manager for comment, he sang a very different tune.
Does this ever happen to 0bama?
I would say to Young, shut up a sing but I hate his singing almost as much as Obama.
Isn’t it a GOOD thing to have Neil Young on the other side?
Stupid Libtard trying to make an ‘Oh Poor Me’ song.
Southern Man don’t need you around anyhow, Kneel.
Wes Craven called and wants his monster back…
Neil Young…..perfect example of what’s wrong with America.
Trump paid the 2 bits….STFU
Neil Young; I love his music, I hate his political view.
Perfect example of what pot will do to your brain. Don’t do drugs kids.
Hey, Hey My, My, The Old Man doesn’t have a Heart of Gold. The Loner Southern Man should just Walk On Into The Wind down Peaceful Valley Boulevard. Since Only Love Can Break Your Heart Let’s Impeach The President cause’ Ordinary People Don’t Be Denied and Don’t Cry No Tears.
The fact that Trump would pay five cents to use Neil Young’s laughably overwrought song is one more piece of evidence that he isn’t fit to be elected dogcatcher for Lower Manhattan, let alone President
I wonder if the Weather Girls will do the same to Lindsay Grahm?
“Grinch” !!!

Another mean, mad, hateful, has-been liberal. Most of America would be happy to live on what this bitter old man pays in taxes. STFU loser.
So he supports the socialist Bernie Sanders but demands payment for using his private property.
Question: If liberal artists are so opposed to capitalism, why is there a warning against unauthorized usage of their songs?
Ass.
When millionaires fight,
it’s the poor that suffer.
(From the Ethiopian saying:
When elephants fight,
it’s the grass that suffers.)
I’d think Mr. Young would be happy for anyone to give him a heads up today. I still have his albums, but many in this generation don’t know him. Seems like he’d welcome the publicity.
Careful Neal, Donald could buy all the rights to your music without even blinking.
I love it when those who decry Capitalism get all uppity about their copyrights and broadcast licensing
I love some of his music, but some of it is nothing more than noise. AND he’s a gigantic douchenozzle.
Hope Neal Young can remember, Donald Trump don’t need him around anyhow!
I think Trump’s a pompous ass, however he showed he can learn from others mistakes (Rubio, Romney etc) and made Young look like an idiot which made my day. Isn’t it funny how most of these rich, show biz types always seem to attach themselves to the most leftist candidate running? I mean it almost seems they’re trading IQ points for money and fame.
Young sold his soul a long time ago.
He has nothing but bitterness and dementia.
And a shit-pot full of money.
He was so far to the left, that even Crosby Stills and Nash booted him
well, he did save that toy train company years ago – that ain’t socialist
I’d think that only a diehard fan would have recognized the song the Trump’s people chose to use. I didn’t hear it but did they only play the tune, not the lyrics?
I’ve never heard it or heard of it.
I’m a huge fan of Neil’s older stuff. I’ve traveled far and wide to attend his performances, own most of his commercial catalog and several hundred hours of live and unreleased studio recordings. I’ve read both his recent books. I rotate a couple dozen of Neil’s older tunes as covers in my live performances. I’ve met him and Pegi, two of his kids, and used to know a few members of his tour staff. I know how to get to the gate of his ranch because I’ve been there.
Neil turned me off when he went full scale whacko during CSNY’s “Living With War” tour. The hypocrisy he displayed of protesting Bush’s war actions while previously, and later on, ignoring the same actions by left wing leaders was enough for me. Fuck him. Of all the releases he’s supplied since about 2003 I have I think two of them, and I didn’t buy them, they were given to me.
He’s a crotchety old fuck and as a Canadian he should shut the fuck up about American affairs. Yes, the USA, without whom he’d still be crawling the streets of Toronto with a half-broken guitar.
That being said, I still enjoy and study his music. Prolific song writing and diverse style is hard to ignore. Back in the 80s Neil displayed a real conservative streak. Alas, continued exposure to liberal richtards have completely wasted him away, and his last book’s rantings about climate change are enough to gag a maggot.
I disagree with almost all of his current political and societal beliefs.
As an artist, I hold him in deep respect.
Oh, and fuck Donnie Trump, too. Fucking asshole. Just because.
LOL and he might just do that!!!
In reality, it was usually Neil who walked out on them.
I can’t find the quote, but someone once wrote that Neil sings like he’s being groped by a gorilla.
then they were too far to his right, so he left?
Flip, do you have an example of his conservative streak? Songs or lyrics? I can only tolerate a few of his tunes, and dont recall that side of him.
I still have his Harvest album. Here in 2015, Neil Young can kiss my conservative ass. Trump should follow his poorly chosen campaign song with Sweet Home Alabama. Trump can kiss my ass too.
It wasn’t a left or right thing. Neil’s a selfish prick sometimes, and if CSN didn’t fit Neil’s personal career goals at a given time, he split.
Neil caught some shit for speaking out positively about Reagan in the 80s. I don’t think he was a big supporter, but he felt a lot of Ronnie’s policies were good things.

The song “Welfare Mothers” on Rust Never Sleeps derides the welfare state.
“Hawks and Doves” on the same-named album promotes a certain sense of patriotism and support of national defense.
Got people here down on their knees prayin’
Hawks and doves are circlin’ in the rain
Got rock and roll, got country music playin’
If you hate us you just don’t know what you’re sayin’
Ready to go, willing to stay and pay
(USA… USA)
So my sweet love can dance another free day
(USA…USA)
“Union Man” on the same album pokes fun at idiotic labor movements.
“Coming Apart at Every Nail” rues the movements and pressures eroding the strength of the United States.
Various songs on “Old Ways” promote sound family values.
Try to find a copy of the song “Mideast Vacation” and give it a listen.
In the horrible film “Human Highway” Neil makes his feelings known about Islam of the period (“Huh… towelheads”).
In the 80s he wasn’t much for European culture, either. In the unreleased documentary “Muddy Tracks,” Neil goes into a rant at one point about “them fucking Luxemburgers.”
There are many other examples, these are a few off the top of my head at the start of a long work day.
Cheers.
Here’s a lyric excerpt from “Mideast Vacation”:
I was travelling with my family
In the Mideast late one night
In the hotel all was quiet
The kids were out like little lights
Then the street was filled with jeeps
There was an explosion to the right
They chanted “Death to America”
I was feeling like a fight
So I ran downstairs
And out into the street
Someone kicked me in the belly
Someone else kissed my feet
I was Rambo in the disco
I was shooting to the beat
When they burned me in effigy
My vacation was complete
