New Standards For Films To Be Considered For Academy Awards

What a pantload. Your personal vision cannot be considered award-worthy by the academy unless you conform and tailor your film to meet the sensibilities of the virtue signalers. And what are those sensibilities?

You must never have an all-white film. But you can have an all-black film.

Oscars-

For the 96th Oscars (2024), a film must meet TWO out of FOUR of the following standards to be deemed eligible:

STANDARD A:  ON-SCREEN REPRESENTATION, THEMES AND NARRATIVES
To achieve Standard A, the film must meet ONE of the following criteria:

A1. Lead or significant supporting actors

At least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group.
• Asian
• Hispanic/Latinx
• Black/African American
• Indigenous/Native American/Alaskan Native
• Middle Eastern/North African
• Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
• Other underrepresented race or ethnicity

A2. General ensemble cast

At least 30% of all actors in secondary and more minor roles are from at least two of the following underrepresented groups:
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing

A3. Main storyline/subject matter

The main storyline(s), theme or narrative of the film is centered on an underrepresented group(s).
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing

TANDARD B: CREATIVE LEADERSHIP AND PROJECT TEAM
To achieve Standard B, the film must meet ONE of the criteria below:

B1. Creative leadership and department heads

At least two of the following creative leadership positions and department heads—Casting Director, Cinematographer, Composer, Costume Designer, Director, Editor, Hairstylist, Makeup Artist, Producer, Production Designer, Set Decorator, Sound, VFX Supervisor, Writer—are from the following underrepresented groups:
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing

At least one of those positions must belong to the following underrepresented racial or ethnic group:
• Asian
• Hispanic/Latinx
• Black/African American
• Indigenous/Native American/Alaskan Native
• Middle Eastern/North African
• Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
• Other underrepresented race or ethnicity

B2. Other key roles

At least six other crew/team and technical positions (excluding Production Assistants) are from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group. These positions include but are not limited to First AD, Gaffer, Script Supervisor, etc.

B3. Overall crew composition
At least 30% of the film’s crew is from the following underrepresented groups:
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing


STANDARD C:  INDUSTRY ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITIES
To achieve Standard C, the film must meet BOTH criteria below:

C1. Paid apprenticeship and internship opportunities

The film’s distribution or financing company has paid apprenticeships or internships that are from the following underrepresented groups and satisfy the criteria below:
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing

The major studios/distributors are required to have substantive, ongoing paid apprenticeships/internships inclusive of underrepresented groups (must also include racial or ethnic groups) in most of the following departments: production/development, physical production, post-production, music, VFX, acquisitions, business affairs, distribution, marketing and publicity.

The mini-major or independent studios/distributors must have a minimum of two apprentices/interns from the above underrepresented groups (at least one from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group) in at least one of the following departments: production/development, physical production, post-production, music, VFX, acquisitions, business affairs, distribution, marketing and publicity.

C2. Training opportunities and skills development (crew)

The film’s production, distribution and/or financing company offers training and/or work opportunities for below-the-line skill development to people from the following underrepresented groups:
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group
• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing
 

STANDARD D: AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT
To achieve Standard D, the film must meet the criterion below:

D1. Representation in marketing, publicity, and distribution


The studio and/or film company has multiple in-house senior executives from among the following underrepresented groups (must include individuals from underrepresented racial or ethnic groups) on their marketing, publicity, and/or distribution teams.
• Women
• Racial or ethnic group

  • Asian
  • Hispanic/Latinx
  • Black/African American
  • Indigenous/Native American/Alaskan Native
  • Middle Eastern/North African
  • Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
  • ​Other underrepresented race or ethnicity

• LGBTQ+
• People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing

All categories other than Best Picture will be held to their current eligibility requirements.  Films in the specialty feature categories (Animated Feature Film, Documentary Feature, International Feature Film) submitted for Best Picture/General Entry consideration will be addressed separately.

Academy Aperture 2025 is the next phase of the Academy’s equity and inclusion initiative furthering the organization’s ongoing efforts to advance inclusion in the entertainment industry and increase representation within its membership and the greater film community.

  3. This is the cherry on top. China owns Hollywood, anyway, so I could not care less what kinds of screwy rulz they think up for themselves. It’s always fun to watch the Lefties eat their own.

    So what if the Oscar for Best Picture winds up being an Indie film about transgendered Asian and Hispanic midgets. I bet the Cohen bros can come up with a story line that makes sense. I didn’t see anything in the rulz about the film having to make money. Good thing.

    This must be linked to their “social justice score” approach and will determine just how much money american haters can get for whatever piece of trash they star in.

  7. Hollywood is entirely dependent on the people who pay to watch their productions.

    As long as they continue to please those people they will prosper, and when they fail to do so they will slowly dry up and die like a flower cut from the plant it grew on.

  8. Haven’t been in a theater in 30 years. TV is in a closet facing the wall and unplugged. No cable, no dish, no antenna. And I have not missed anything important. May sound radical. but it’s kind of like living off the grid, up in the woods somewhere, and it’s nice.

  9. I’m just surprised that the chosen classes didn’t include the child molesters and rapists that permeate throughout Hollywood. I guess that community isn’t strong enough yet to come completely out of the closet.

    In any event if this wasn’t a joke look to see more accidents and fatalities on movie sets as experienced gaffers, electricians, carpenters and the like are replaced with affirmative hires of all stripes as well as the general quality of movies that wanted to be Oscar eligible drops even further then the PC tripe served up now.

    The Oscars has just been a circle jerk for years now and more and more people (on all sides political of the population) just ignore it.

    There has not been any new quality product out of Hollywood in years.
    The Academy Awards are joke and of no regard to the Americans or anyone else now. We do not,make that, did not go to see any Movie about Political Correctness and anti Americanism. Hollywood is sick and dying!
    How these Hollywood “Stars” continue to enrich themselves is a puzzlement. There is no audience! We want good entertainment and that is all from them. Their politics stink and we tun our backs on them.

  11. Why are we even paying attention to this? Why should we care? I have an idea. We all agree that celebrities are moronic empty vassals of the Democrat party and hard left. We also all agree that Hollywood is evil and should be totally put out of business. However why do we bother paying attention at all? Even if the story is like this one, a chance to laugh at celeb’s and Hollywood. Let’s simply ignore them. TOTALLY. Don’t report on anything they do or say. Don’t report on movies or tv shows. If you are a true conservative, you would shut these losers and their opinions out of your life no matter how stupid the comments they make and actions they take. I stopped paying attention to Hollywood/Celebrity stuff a year ago and feel much better for it. We have a social compact that gives these people celebrity and envy. If we decide we no longer want to be party to that compact what are they going to do? Just ignore anything and everything coming out of California, but especially anything involving celebrity or entertainment.
