New Virginia Law Maker Wants Students to Study the Lincoln-Douglas Debates

Leftist media nearly choked on their own chortling when a new bill proposed for the Virginia House of Delegates appeared to confuse Fredrick Douglass with Stephen Douglas in a measure to have high school students study the famous 1858 Illinois debates with Abraham Lincoln. Here and Here

Even Slate had to admit that the error was the fault of the Virginia Division of Legislative Services, who is responsible for formatting and editing draft legislation, and not of newly elected representative Wren Williams.

Slate was also quick to note that if Virginia high schools have to teach actual history it will leave less time for instructors to sneak in CRT and Howard Zinn tainted interpretations on past events. Here

  1. It’s not the GOP delegate’s fault, history can be challenging. A lot of facts to keep straight, like when George Washington Carver crossed the Delaware on Christmas Eve, when Henry Lighthorse Lee surrendered to Cary Grant after The Spanish American War, that Al Gore invented the internet, Hillary dodging sniper fire in Bosnia and our beloved President marched for civil rights in Birmingham back in the 60’s and getting arrested along with Spike Lee and Kanye.

  2. “Virginia bill would prohibit instructors from teaching that the U.S. is “systemically racist or sexist” or that “the ideology of equity of outcomes is superior to the ideology of equality…of opportunities.” It would also ban school boards from hiring anyone “with the job title of equity director or diversity director or a substantially similar title.””

That would all be fantastic. Of course Slate/MSN is whining about it.

  3. I don’t think they are going to like what Lincoln had to say in those debates. I listened to them a few decades ago and they are extremely racist and give a view of an unabashed white supremacist, namely Lincoln. I went to college with David Duke and he was always preaching at the student Union. And Lincoln was worse than him. I couldn’t listen to the tape with my children in the car.

  4. M. Stanton Evans used to sprinkle his presentations about McCarthyism, the Army hearings, and communism in the U.S. with a story about a news reader on the tee vee talking about “World War Eleven”.
