New Year’s Resolution – IOTW Report

New Year’s Resolution

Are there any foods that you eat too much of that you think might be really bad for you, but you can’t quit ’em? Like Funyons? Moon Pies? Corn dogs?4b6c9392d7649fb109d098a8295baf08

Is there anything you might cut down on this year for health reasons?

I have to cut out chocolate covered nuts.

  1. I saw my good friend die of pancreatic cancer – he went fast only lasted 2 months. I don’t plan to cut out anything, I just booked a cruise to Alaska. Going to Hawaii in 3 weeks. I only resolve to keep moving, we all can do that and if you don’t you’re going to die. Live life now.

  2. BFH – if health is your concern, you can eat the chocolate covered nuts pretty near guilt free (if eaten in moderation). Nuts vary in nutritional content but they are all pretty healthy because they generally contain “good” fats (heart healthy), several minerals, fiber and lots of protein. Here’s a link to a pretty quick slide show that covers many different types and their benefits:

Even chocolate has been recently recognized as being somewhat healthy and nowhere near as bad for you as it has been portrayed in the past. Here’s a brief excerpt from the article linked below:

“However, “the recent discovery of biologically active phenolic compounds in cocoa has changed this perception and stimulated research on its effects in aging, oxidative stress, blood pressure regulation, and atherosclerosis. Today, chocolate is lauded for its tremendous antioxidant potential.”

A lot of what has been considered “common wisdom” over the last few decades in nutrition has proven to be a bunch of nonsense. Even real butter and whole milk has been proven to be heart healthy in recent years.

If they decide beer is healthy I might live forever.

  3. Low carber here but once a week I sidle into Panera with my head down and eat an iced cookie with a tea followed by iced coffee. Sometimes I take it to my car to have a sugar orgasm in private.

My true addiction is tea, tea and more tea. mainly the Assams from various tea estates in India – Golden Tips, Harmutty. Doomni. Simpson and Vail has this Violet Black Tea better than candied violets and a Violet Rose Tea. Got a box of tea from them last week and there was a catalog in the box. Toted that catalog into the living room to watch football and sniff the wonderful tea scents on the catalog. My husband doesn’t know whether to laugh or lock me up but he did buy me a spiffy new teapot for Christmas.

  4. Well I drink tea also. But only Lipton tea in the bag. Never cold.
    3 to 4 cups a day
I used to buy the ‘real’ tea. But. I saw no point to it.
I’m poor and too old to try to impress anyone.

  5. I would love to give up Diet Coke, but over 30+ years it has become my elixir of life. I drink it at breakfast, then nurse a 20-oz. bottle during my morning commute.

You wouldn’t want to see me in the a.m. without my dose of caffeine. I am one bitchy, incompetent, stupid person!

  6. They just built a new Jack in the box about 2 blocks away from my house which opened up last week. I can see it learing at me from down the street making its siren call of cheap fast food, come on in. I have a weakness for Jumbo Jacks and the 2 for.99 tacos, so far I haven’t been there yet because I’ve been so busy over the past couple of weeks. Everything in moderation and besides my daughters would kill me if I go there too often. Now if they had built Eastern Washington’s first Chic-fil-a there that might be a different story.

  7. Obama’s resolution was to give up chocolate covered nuts too.
Well; for a while he was doing pretty good…… until reggie came by the white house.

The rash on obama’s chip ain’t from shaving.

  8. On a senior citizen trip to Atlantic City last year a little old lady gave the bus driver a packet of peanuts. He liked peanuts and thanked her.
As they pulled into the Casino berth, she gave the driver another packet. He thanked her again and said don’t you eat them yourself?
No, she said, my husband and I just like to suck the chocolate off them.

Beware of little old ladies bearing gifts.

  9. Just tried the onion buttery jack with cheddar cheese this week for the first time.

Whoa! What a sandwich! I think I may have to give that up, but if it kills me I’ll die happy and sated.

  10. Try Luzianne tea bags. The price of Lipton was jacked up so high around here I switched to Luzianne. Well, first I switched to Red Rose and then they raised the price on that a lot. Luzianne tastes a better and makes some fine tea- brined and tea marinated chicken.
