Gothamist

Futuristic garbage cans will soon appear on New York City streets following a delay tied to a feature of the newfangled $1,000 trash receptacles.

The cans, designed by Group Project, have a lightweight plastic liner inside a perforated metal and concrete shell, topped by a swinging lid. The first shipment of 300 trash cans arrived this month and will be installed around the city in the next few weeks, said Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch. More

  1. ahhh yes the priorities of my wonderful city. this is incredibly retarded but not at the level of retardation as to what they are doing in regards to crosswalks. it looks like a F’ng crime scene where 34 people got shot and it last for 2 weeks

  2. “gorgeous” outer shells — they’re garbage cans !!!

They’ll still have to be emptied by hand, by sanitation workers, gotta keep those Union Jobs.

Spending over a $Million dollars and begging Washington DC for more money for placing illegal immigrants in Hotels.

  3. I have a very vivid imagination yet I’m not able to fantasize about what it may be like to piss away money as though it’s merely air passing through your hands. As though there is absolutely NO connection between earning money and totally pissing it away.

Then again; I ain’t a liberal in charge of other peoples’ money.

  4. When I read these would be trash cans of the future I figured they’d empty themselves and take DNA off of miscreants to instantly identify them for the police. Nope, just a plastic core with a flip lid to tear off and throw at the police and a concrete bass to better smash shop windows. These will work out just fine.

  5. And they only need 23,000 of them x 1,000 dollars each and I bet the liners replacements cost as much as the whole can.
Garbage men are real gentle with our cans Ha!
