Despite City’s Positive Outlook On Crime Numbers, NYPD Reports Murders & Rapes Soaring In 2019.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – For several years, New York has prided itself as being the safest big city in America.
The NYPD and Mayor de Blasio have boasted about a continued drop in crime citywide, but a closer look at those numbers finds a disturbing trend being masked by an overall lower crime rate.
Murders and reported rapes across the five boroughs have spiked through the first two months of 2019.
According to the NYPD’s weekly CompStat reports, 51 murders were reported through Feb. 24 – a staggering 50-percent increase from the same point last year.
Authorities are reporting a 23.6 percent increase in rapes in 2019. There have been 267 cases reported through Feb. 24, with 31 coming in just a seven-day period from Feb. 18-24. more

I think there is a math formula.
A year over year demographic breakdown of the increase would be interesting to see.
It would provide an essential analysis of the origins and causes of the increase to start finding a solution to it.
But I doubt there is one, or maybe even statics being kept needed to develop one, since it is NYC.

Only two months into 2019, the number of homicides to date is outpacing that of the last two years. According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police data, there have been 25 homicides in Charlotte so far this year. There were six at this point last year, and 15 at this point in 2017.

Like Chicongo and Los Angeles, New York must have creative ways of hiding actual numbers.
