Oh, Deer, Part One – IOTW Report

Oh, Deer, Part One

Images from:

1) Truckbuddy (Deer) Just a random critter, caught her looking at me from the wheat.
2) Truckbuddy (Deer) Probably the same deer, much younger, earlier this year. She’s not as tall as the wheat.
3) Peter the Bobblehead (Colorado Mule Deer) This deer and another could be seen grazing in the back yard of the vacation home we rented in Durango, Colorado almost every morning the week of July 17-26.
4) TennDon (Bull Elk) in North Western New Mexico.
5) Eugenia (Deer) from 2022 by our small equipment shed.
6) Hambone (Deer) My back yard stays pretty busy this time of year. When you scatter corn, they will come.
7) Hambone (Deer, Max) Our beloved cat, Max, watching over his deer friends while they eat. RIP Max.
8) SNS (Deer) Fawns are plentiful this year.
9) Conservative Cowgirl (Deer) We haven’t any fencing on three sides of our property so the deer (and, as my trail cam reports, it’s a wildlife thoroughfare all night long) are free to come and go. This doe and fawn found the birdbath water to their liking. 😁

  1. My Ellie is 1/2 Black Lab and 1/2 Pointer.
She is completely missing the hunting gene. The sound of gunfire sends her diving under my bed.
Our subdivision has several deer who tour the neighborhood and Ellie will just sit at the window and watch them all walk by.
On one occasion, when I took her outside for her morning constitutional, a little deer was laying in our yard.
Ellie and the deer just sniffed each other and went their separate ways.
I love her, but she will probably be useless for finding food in a SHTF situation.
    BTW. Lovely pics.

  2. Rutting season is upon us, bucks are showing up to gather their harem. Saw two bobcats yesterday, Mom and her cub. There’s plenty to enjoy if you look for it. Love the pics!

  3. Good morning, Lady C, thanks for our Sunday break.

Mom’s been teaching her dapplings how to stand in the road and stare at the cars going 40+ down the twisting, narrow hills. They seem to be learning well, this was probably the last time I saw them NOT standing on asphalt.

I see does and fawns a lot, but I’ve only seen 2 bucks, and one of them was really young and still in felt. Either the guys hide well or they are few in number and SUPER busy making all those babies.

Either way, nice that I have a food supply wandering the neighborhood, but the neighbors all have guns too, so there may be some crossfire when Spicy Time arrives…

  4. Truckbuddy, that is a seriously great picture you caught there. Even photography contest worthy possibly.

@MissInMi My old lab, who’s gone to the Rainbow Bridge, was scared out of her mind every 4th of July during fireworks.

Always enjoy seeing the Sunday animal pictures.
