Oingo Boingo – Capitalism (1983)

A timeless anthem, as apropos as the day it was written.
There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you cry
There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I’m so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin’ down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!
If it ain’t one thing
Then it’s the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone’s brother
I’ve got to tell you you’re a pain in the ass
You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you
You’re just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that we’ve got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain . . .
There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with Capitalism

  1. Elfman with them?

“Capitalism” isn’t a system. Neither is “Freedom.”
Actually, they’re a lack of systems – a lack of coercion.

Tough for the systematized, categorized, stratified, codified, regimentized, stultified, indoctrinatized mind to get around.

    izlamo delenda est …

  2. Yep Elfman was the driving force. From their first album.
‘Only a Lad’, which was also a very conservative themed song from that album. Law & Order vs soft on crime SJW judges. 1981

  3. Capitalism is the natural order of the universe.
What goes up must come down. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. There is no free lunch, even at a tapas.

  4. I agree with Frank Bass about the natural order of the universe. When my daughter was 2, she learned this word fast “Mine”. She could be quite vicious when she had to defend her toys or her cookies!

  5. I disagree with this though, in regards to capitalism-
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Sounds a little like the theory of a zero-sum game.

  6. Properties of Physics don’t necessarily apply to economics.

Speaking of properties of physics and for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction…has anyone but me loaded up a jon boat with a power pruner (chainsaw on a stick) to tidy up the underbrush and overgrowth at the waters edge?

Isaac Newton would have known better. PHenry did not. because sometimes PHenry is a dumbass. Got ‘er done though. Tricky business being on water with a chainsaw. Pulls you up close and personal to the work target.

    Still gives me the chuckles.

  7. Reminds me of the county motto of Spotsylvania VA. Patior ut potiar. Suffer to obtain. I’ve been suffering there for 5 weeks and obtaining handsomely but we haven’t advanced the ball. We haven’t lost yardage on this conversion project, but my analysis shows where the discrepancies are and they’re like ‘oh yeah. We discussed this issue 10 years ago.’

  9. Man, this album confused the parents. They all thought we were listening to the same old hippy wizard bong crap as previous generations.

“Nah, mom. This song is about Capitalism and how awesome it is.”
“Oh, and this song is about some spoiled brat who should get the death penalty….”

They usually just left the room.

  10. Huron is a daredevil! Daredevils are cool.

Most of my encounters with newtonian physics were unintentional and the result of laziness. Like, why do i have to take the bucket of white trim paint of the ladder hook when moving the ladder?

Actually, I didn’t. It was fine. But changing ladder height with bucket in place? Not good. Dumped 3/4 gallon directly on my head. Wife hadn’t laughed that hard before or since.

I wanted a towel. She wanted a camera.

  11. Huron. We’ve been refuced to shuffling about in our jammies until 9:30 then mowing or weeding.
It now sucks to be us.

    Actually. It doesn’t. Hahaha.

When fishing trips require upwards of 40 stitches just to fill a bait bucket. Shit happens.

  12. Back in the 80s these guys were all the rage on the WI Madison campus – a place I met Rodney Dangerfield when he was filming Back to School. I had way too much fun drinking beer and partying on State Street back then – but still graduated with a decent GPA as a double major… Ahh the stories I could tell ya!!!

  13. Elfman from the start was Oingo Boingo.
Always have paid attention to credits and been amazed how much he has done and I’ve always have appreciated his talent.
Will bet that our POTUS was a fan way back then as well.
Beats the Sh*t out of the non-appreciative reparations to non-talented trash the white guilt queer MSM has been promoting for decades.
