  1. I’ll take the Bronco. Hubby has his eye on the Jag… in fact, I think that IS his old Jag that he sold a few recessions ago… He wants it back, along with the rest of the joy and optimism and ambition this country used to have!

  2. Second cousin to the Charger. Fastest car I ever drove was a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda (trans am maybe?).

340 cubic inches with 3 two barrel carburetors and a Hurst shifter. Lime green with black strobe stripes.

140 mph. I’m lucky teenage PHenry didn’t get killed.

  3. At around 16, a neighbor let me drive his 1962 Jaguar XKE. Fun,
When the 1970 – 1974 Dodge Challenger came out, I really want one but didn’t want to spend around $4000 for one. I’ve since seen 426 Hemi versions go for $500,000 at Barrett-Jackson. Of course that’s for a mint condition numbers matching car with almost no miles. If I’d have gotten one as a 25 year old USAF Captain, it would have been driven hard.

  4. From the choices, the Continental.

Of anything, about 40 years ago I saw a yellow 1948 Pontiac convertible that looked cool.

I would love to drive about. 1948 Lincoln with a straight 12 or 16. From what I have read they were smooth as silk.

  5. Charger 426 … bad mister!

or the Mustang … not sure it’s a Shelby … if so, been repainted & never saw one w/ a square back (could be a bolt-in convertible top … t-birds had those @ that time)

  6. Do my eyes deceive me or is that an 82-85ish Ford Fairmont station wagon on the bottom right? It might not have been the fastest but it could do some decent burnouts… and there was room for so much more fun on the inside when it was parked down some secluded country road…

  7. …I pick my ’73 secondhand Cutlass Supreme 350 4bbl dual exhaust, Keystone rims with fat 60s on the back. I got the thing beat up by its previous owner and put my own dents in it, but it was the proverbial ugly chick who’s good in the sack when it came time to put the hammer down…

  8. gotta luv this post … we all got our love of the ‘great American car’ from those classic cars

    we all got a chubby from a ’36 Ford w/ a rumble seat, or a ’49 merc, a ’55 or ’57 Chevy Bel-Air, a ’59 ‘vette, a ’67 moon roof t-bird, ’65 mustang, ’69 chevy camaro or nova, ’69 GTO or Charger? … & on & on

remember the ‘Judge’, the ‘Bee’, the ‘Super Bee’, the ‘Cuda, the ‘Cobra’?

now, we have the electric ‘viper’ that needs total recharging every 250 miles … ah, progress

  9. just had a brain fart … I’m imagining the Daytona 500 or the Indy 500 w/ electric cars …

the pit stops would make grand television … “oh, look at that, Pierre Goosetrantard had an incredible pit stop at 29:33 minutes of recharging … a new record! what amazing crew work!”

  10. The 69 Charger, of course. A work of art with the 440 three deuce setup. When I was in high school and had a DL, my dad had a white 71 Torino with a 351 Windsor like Starsky and Hutch . It was a pathetic and gutless rag that wallowed around corners and could not get out of its own way. That TV car was all made up Hollywood BS by people who knew nothing about cars, or maybe Ford paid them off.

  11. as a teen in high school, i bought a 58 Chevy Impala (i know, ugly car) with a factory installed 348 and factory three two barrels for $300. it ran but wouldn’t go due to a badly slipping clutch. turned out the guy put the wrong clutch disk in. i replaced that and yowza. I added a 4- speed. i never lost a street race to a 396. ruined all there hopes and dreams. sold it for $75 when i joined the USMC in 1967. guess i was stupid then, too.
