Olympic athletes banned from political statements at 2020 Tokyo Games

The International Olympic Committee on Thursday affirmed that athletes are banned from making political statements at the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, months after two Americans were rebuked for their demonstrations at the Pan-American Games.

Officials unveiled strict rules governing athlete behavior in the form of Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter. The rule states that “no kind of demonstration or political, religious or racial propaganda is permitted in any Olympic sites, venues or other areas.”

While Rule 50 already existed, the IOC identified specific examples of actions that are no longer permitted during the Olympics. Athletes are banned from kneeling, making hand gestures or displaying political messages in the form of armbands or other attire, among other restrictions. Continued

    Funny how it is usually athletes from the US who make the political statements, usually against the US. Athletes from countries where they would be shot for disparaging their counties don’t make such statements because they know they would be shot for making such statements. Leftists consider the fact that athletes from tyrannical countries don’t make disparaging statements as evidence that those countries are better than the US. All it really proves is that leftists are morons.

    Meanwhile a number of countries still praise the Munich terrorists.
