The estate of George Orwell has given the go-ahead for a feminist retelling of the British author’s classic novel “1984,” according to The Guardian.
American author Sandra Newman will tell the story of Orwell’s “1984” through the perspective of protagonist Winston Smith’s lover Julia.
“It was the man from Records who began it, him all unknowing in his prim, grim way, his above-it-all oldthink way. He was the one Syme called ‘Old Misery’,” Newman writes in an excerpt of the book obtained by The Guardian. “Comrade Smith was his right name, though ‘Comrade’ never suited him somehow. Of course, if you felt foolish calling someone ‘Comrade’, far better not to speak to them at all.” More
What, not a trans-woman’s perspective?
I’m sure totalitarianism will be much worse for women.
Women need big brother now more than ever since they ran away from men.
Let me guess – Big Brother and Oceania will be white male supremacists
^^^ oh yeah, and somehow conservative at the same time
This is to the original “1984” what the all girl “Ghostbusters” was to the original.
Oh, good grief. I’m so sick of ‘women’ needing to be the center of attention.
Yes, I know you hate men, but I don’t so just shut your mouth. Find an island and build your Amazon Empire of worthless hags.
Am I the only one looking forward to reading it?
If its 1/2 as good as the original it’s going to be great.
Just the sample paragraph alone the woman is blaming Winston Smith for her willing participation in their sexual encounters.
They should make it more relevant to the present, Title it “Kamala: How I Slept My Way To the Top of the Regime.”
Rewriting history. What is next shred and destroy all the original copies so you never know the character Winston – exactly what the book was about.
The estate would have been better off giving David Bowie the rights to 1984. But they refused his offer. They would have made a killing. Instead they give the rights to this crap enterprise
Claudia, I celebrate you and hold you high. My wife is another that is thankful men exist. She was raised in a family where the men, were men.
She knows we have our job, as she has hers. And men that don’t measure up in her estimation get no respect at all.
Not long after we met, she asked me, “I need your knife.” I produced such, opened it and handed it to her.
Was over a year later she told me why she did that.

If found 1984 to be very depressing 62 years ago!
I liked ANIMAL FARM; in part because it was only 1/4 long. But GWB’s saying “Some are more equal than others!” has been part of my being since 1960! I think dumb
Bush may have read FARM
I have been a big Orwell fan for over 60 years. Read his audtobiog about 40 years go. Learned much!
I hope it’s replete with PMS and menopause melt-downs.
I’ll pass on it
Whine, whine. According to the feminist narrative, a woman is either a victim or superhero. Two extremes.
Enough of these feminist driven reimagined themes and roles. They aren’t connected to facts.
So, we will get a take on “1984” from a different gender. If gender differences are imaginary, why rewrite it and why read it?
It’s in a Guardian U.K. article. Those clowns make CNN & MSNBC look like a bunch of right wing extremists. That paper is only good for starting a fire to burn trash. What a wonderful way to destroy one of the most relevant novels ever written.
Thank you, Lowell. I think I’d like your wife! We have the same outlook on gender roles.
Isn’t that what The Handsmaid’s Tale is for?
