Our Claudia is Going Under the Knife – IOTW Report

Our Claudia is Going Under the Knife

From Claudia-

I’m having a hip replacement on Monday. I don’t think it is a big deal; had one on my left hip 7 years ago and it went just fine. This one should go even smoother as it’s a different procedure. They are making the incision in the front which cuts through less muscle tissue, thus less time and effort for the
recovery process.

My doctor, during my pre-op physical, said he never had a patient that
was so excited for surgery. I laughed and told him that it was because I
was looking forward to the result: no more pain and getting back to
being more active!

~~~~~~~~
As brave as our Claudia is being, this is surgery!
I’ll be saying a little prayer.
  1. Claudia, tomorrow we will miss your creatures but you are so much more important to us! You are our sister! May God be with you in your surgery. May you have the best doctors! And most of all may you heal to healthy! We love you Claudia! So many on this site will be praying for you! I am requesting a special prayer for you in my evangelical church tomorrow morning.
  2. Lord, please bless and strenghten Claudia, steady and guide the hand of her surgeon, walk around her hospital bed as her Ulimate Physician to guard her and guide her postoperative care, and bring her full, complete, and rapid healing.
    We stand upon Your word as we ask this in faith, and glorify Your name for the healing you bring.
    And we ask it all in the precious name of Jesus,
    Amen.
    God Bless,
    SNS
  3. I had a hip replacement with the front cut a year and a half ago, and I had no problem with recovery. I recovered very quickly and was so happy to no longer have the pain I had been having! Good luck with your operation! And now you are truly a cyborg!
  4. My mother had one done at the age of 84; gave her a new lease on life and she carried on until age 93
    Prior to surgery she was in such misery that she once resisted going to the ER due to pneumonia. “Why bother, just more pain” she said
    But you must know all about that, Claudia. And you know things will improve greatly and quickly
  5. Please know everyone who loves your Sunday photographs are hoping that your operation is as successful as all those wonderful pets and wild animals are in reminding us how many good things exist in this world. Get well soon!
  6. Claudia, your replacement parts are more likely than not manufactured in my town where the procedure was pioneered by Dr. Charles O. Townley. My great grandmother was his first patient for his artificial hip transplant. While he was still practicing he opened a manufacturing facility here to make the replacement parts. Any patients of his were always sold the the needed parts at cost which is a rarity today. He also corrected my sisters scoliosis when she was a young teenager. He trained and gave many seminars up until his passing in 2006. If you were to mention his name to your doctor I’m fairly certain he would be familiar with him. He and his technique’s are taught to all such doctor’s to this day so I know you’ll be in good hands.
  7. Thank you so much for well wishes and especially your prayers. Fur is right, I shouldn’t minimize the fact that it is surgery.
    Harry A, Fur is correct. I have the Sunday Critters for the next two Sunday’s already scheduled.
    Different Tim, thanks for the info. I’ll drop Dr. Townley’s name and see if my surgeon is impressed!
    I’ll be thinking about you all when I am skipping down the hall to PT just a few hours after surgery. I’m hoping I impress them so much that they will let me go home that day! Well, it DOES happen!
    Thanks again, everyone. I love you!
  8. @C – Two is better than one! Ghost and Co. will be thinkin’ bout’ ya. (I see a future theme around this – “recuperating critters”). At least you don’t have to wear one of those cones around your head!
    @bfh – knew you would have something under your big furry critter hat…oh, and I really like your use of the term OUR.
  9. My brother in-law had one 2 years ago, and was back driving a school bus in 3 weeks. Modern medicine – keeps getting better. You’ve been down this road before…God’s watching out for you, yet again.
  10. Going to be in every prayer time of mine, sweetie.
    I’m glad you are looking forward to it. We’re just going to hover around in a protective shield and make sure no one bumps the doctors’ elbows.
    Yeah, I’m gonna need some video of that (attempt at) skipping part. 🙂
    For science reasons, of course. That and You-tube might like it.
  12. All best wishes and prayers, Miss Claudia, for your successful surgery, recovery, and second wind in life.
    Pssst: Ask your anesthesiology team for “party mode.” And, why not?, I ask! You should get something to remember out your procedure.
  13. …just so you know, Claudia, a friend of mine had a double hip replacement, and went right back to riding Harleys in his MC and teaching karate.
    We expect no less from you.
    …looking forwards to those blurred-face photos of you in motorcycle leathers with the wind in your hair and the bugs in your teeth in the very near future…
    🤗
  14. When Miss Claudia said she was Critter prepared for the next two weeks, now that’s some planning! Never too let her critter fans down.
    Critter Sunday reminds me JUST like the end of the CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Kruralt/Osgood nature shots, YES that good.
    Be well and enjoy the hydro therapy!
    @BFH – how can we get a ‘get well quick IOTW critter’ card going???
  15. Going through the top, or front, gives your ball all the uninterrupted muscle mass where the glutes, hamstrings and thingh muscles come together and keeps it tight against the ball and socket. Originally, they used to use the seam as natural incision point, but realized later the muscles did not adhere together as strong after being cut. My mother had her first hip replaced 3 times, as it was never as strong as it should have been, and keep popping out of the new socket. Her other hip never once popped out, she lived w/both hips and knees replaced beginning in 1996 until she passed away in 2016 at age 88. Good luck Claudia, do everything the rehab physical therapists tell you to do and keep asking for a fresh bedpan, it drives them nuts.
  16. Claudia I’m sorry you have to go through this procedure but I’m sure you will feel good as new when it’s over and you have recuperated from the whole ordeal. Surgery always concerns me but I know and pray all will go well.
    All the best and positive thoughts and prayers always!!
    Best,
  17. I am humbled by your well wishes and prayers. I know that God will honor them and makes “sure no one bumps the doctors’ elbows”. 😉
    I’ll be back before you have a chance to miss me!
    Thanks again, for all the love. It means so much to me. You are part of my family.
    May God bless you richly.
  18. I am a person the worries. It’s my job.
    Claudia, be strong and know we are all here for you. And I will do all the worrying that may be needed for everyone.
    I guess your sister will be taking care of you so God bless you and your family.
