Pantex Shuts Down as Wildfires Rage Across Texas Panhandle

Since 1975, Pantex has been the nation’s primary assembly, disassembly, retrofit, and life-extension center for nuclear weapons. The last new nuclear weapon was completed in 1991. Since then, Pantex has safely dismantled thousands of weapons retired from the stockpile by the military and placed the resulting plutonium pits in interim storage.

Officials with Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC reports that an emergency situation has prompted the Pantex Plant in Amarillo to cease operations.

Officials said operations have ceased at the Pantex Plant until further notice. “All weapons and special materials are safe and unaffected,” noted officials in a Facebook post. More

Update: Officials with Pantex said it will be open for normal day shift operations on Wednesday. “All personnel are to report for duty according to their assigned schedule,” said officials in a Facebook post. Here

  1. Abiline is is an old stomping ground.
    There were major fires a few years back.
    And then a lot of land got sold for solar panels.
    And then there were more fires.
    And then there was miles after mile after miles of burnt trees for miles.
    And this was 2 years ago.
    And now there is more fire?

    2 years ago, in 2022, the ride from Abiline to San Angelo and back was about 2 hours or so, give or take, depending on whom is driving. Sometimes more, fewer times less. There should be sat images of the ghost trees. Some said they grow back, others said not. I don’t know but they do burn either way.

    Interesting.

    Anyways, those fires would not get hot enough to affect anything in the areas around there that have hardened shelters for things needing hardened shelters.

  2. I hope the evacuation of the plant didn’t include the security staff. With all the Islamic terrorists Joe has let into the country in the last 3 years, isn’t anyone in the current regime even a little bit concerned?
