Parts Of Ohio And PA Told To Take Down Birdfeeders and Empty Birdbaths

KCTV 5

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (WBND) — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources continues to urge people to put away birdbaths and bird feeders due to a songbird disease. The disease damages the neurological system in birds with the visible symptoms of crusty eyes or a discharge around the eyes.

Wildlife experts are still determining how the disease spreads and where it originated. They are asking that people refrain from doing things that would encourage birds to congregate and risk potentially spreading the disease.

“They need to socially distance just like we did with COVID,” said Allysin Gillet, an ornithologist with the Indiana DNR. “We want to give them that opportunity and prevent any sort of possible transmission.” More

The problem seems to be in Western Pennsylvania as well. Here

  1. Are they going to require that birds wear masks and socially distance themselves from other birds because of this. Good luck with that, or for people who feed birds to quit feeding them because it’s harmful to the birds. It’s a good thing that God takes care of birds even allowing his people to feed birds just because they want to. My birdfeeder just broke over the weekend, we’ll gat a new one and continue to feed the birds in my backyard. And my birdbath is always full of birds cooling themselves off, even the crows use my birdbath. I’m the local bird person in my neighborhood as well as small critters and bees and butterflies and hummingbirds with all of our flowers.

  2. Next, the birds will be ordered to remain in their nests. Any bird violating the stay-in-nest order will be trapped and put in a cage with all the other violator birds, none of which will have been tested for infectiousness.

Let’s see if they can understand how this can also be used to get a handle on the drug addict and random and sundry Democrat sub constituency groups that tend to congregate and not only spread disease but social pathology as well.

  4. No, I won’t shut down my bird feeders or bird bath. Other animals come and drink from my bird baths. We’re in a drought here and animals including birds are looking for water and shade. Humans need to quit playing God and acting like they know what’s best for everyone but themselves. Birds are also natural carriers of salmonella. Wash your hands after handling any birdfeeder or birdbath.

  5. I tried interviewing the multitude of birds in my back yard and asked if my taking down of the bird feeders in the yard bothered them.

    They universally said “Cheap”.
