Peter Meijer drops primary bid for Michigan Senate seat

Peter Meijer, a former congressman and scion of the Meijer supermarket chain, announced on Friday that he would be withdrawing from the Republican primary race for U.S. Senate in Michigan

Meijer shared in a post on Facebook that he lacked a “strong pathway to victory” and that the “fundamentals” of the race have significantly changed since he started his campaign six months ago.

“Continuing this campaign only increases the likelihood of a divisive primary that would distract from the essential goal — conservative victories in November,” Meijer said.

Meijer had hoped to take the vacant seat of Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), who announced last year that after two decades, she would be retiring.

The onetime congressman lost his House seat during the 2022 midterm elections to a Trump-endorsed candidate. Notably, Meijer voted to impeach Trump over the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol.  more

  1. When he voted to impeach Trump for the Capitol riots, he sealed his own fate, revealing an astonishing lack of judgment and justice.

The same can be said for anyone that voted “present”, punctuating that vote with,”Trump is guilty of wrongdoing.” Until she walks both that vote and that statement back with something that makes sense, she will always be suspect.

  2. He wasn’t very good at reading the room.
It’s a self inflicted wound that isn’t going to heal. But you can bet he was able to score some coin from his failed attempt.

  3. He ran as a MAGA Republican for his first and only term as Representative. I was looking forward to firing him in the next election, but they changed my district. He still lost.

He thinks because he is a relative of the famous Fred Meijer that he can get everything he wants.

    Nope. Jerk.

  4. Thank goodness he didn’t decide to retire right away. The democrats are about to get the majority in the House thanks to the RINOs all getting paid off to leave early.
