Peter Schweizer: Bernie Sanders rails about common good but public service has made him (and his family) rich

FOX:

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has been a loud and constant voice for socialist policies throughout his 30 years in Washington, D.C., a self-proclaimed champion of the collective good. But in researching my new book, “Profiles in Corruption: Abuse of Power by America’s Political Elite,” I discovered that while Sanders may talk about the common good, his public service has made him and his family quite wealthy.

Perhaps no one has benefited more from Sanders’s career in politics than his wife Jane.

When Bernie was first elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont, he appointed his then-girlfriend, Jane Driscoll, to head his administration’s Youth Office. Though the position was originally unpaid, Bernie eventually put Jane on the payroll over objections of the city council. The job was never advertised so that others could apply. A local paper noted that Sanders never bothered to provide evidence as to Jane’s “qualifications” for the position.

The appointment would remain a source of controversy for Sanders. After Bernie and Jane got married in 1988, his new wife received a big pay increase. As one local newspaper reported, “Political sparks flew at Burlington’s annual city meeting Monday night as Democratic aldermen raised a series of questions concerning a hefty pay raise for Mayor Bernie Sanders’ new wife and whether she should continue to hold her job as director of the Mayor’s Youth Office.” read more

  1. Almost all “public employees” are democrats and all have a skewed idea of what creates economy because they don’t participate in it (then they demonize people who do – – you know, the people that PAY FOR THEM). The worst are the retired “public employees” because they get overly-large pensions with benefits while they sit on their asses for twenty years or more. If everyone practiced socialism like they do everyone would starve to death.

I always tell democrats they are free to practice socialism. If it’s such a good thing why don’t they and everyone else who espouses it join together and practice it on a voluntary basis. From that point on they can’t defend it. The only honest socialists are the full-out commies who admit they want the re-education camps and gulags. And they’re EVIL.

  2. Stories such as this only help reinforce what you know intuitively by seeing bernard or hearing him speak: he’s a filthy scumbag who is only ever been out for his own enhancement and uses his supporters as useful idiots who he would dispose of at a moment’s notice if it benefitted him.

Men such as this are far too common in government. Especially on the left.

  3. “Nestled near the end of a suburban cul-de-sac in Alexandria, Virginia, is one of the most profitable media buying agencies in the 2016 primary race for the White House.
Old Towne’s income from the Sanders campaign has not been disclosed, but the industry standard for ad buy commissions is 15 percent. Based on that formula, the firm could have made $12 million.
The ad agency, established in 2014, has almost exclusively served the Sanders campaign, and the company keeps a low profile. It has no website and no listed phone number. A full list of principals isn’t publicly available.

Old Towne Media has another connection to Sanders: The two principal buyers for the company worked in the past with his wife, Jane. Jane Sanders, Shelli Hutton-Hartig and Barbara Abar Bougie were media buyers during Bernie Sanders’ 2006 Senate race.

Here is how it’s done (for Bernie the burnt out bum, anyway)

  4. In other words, rot out the culture and all its institutions so his tribe can rule. Same, 2000 year old story. Sad thing is, it looks like they’re pulling it off this time. But, but “Muh Allies!”

  5. Y’know, Berns may well know he had not a snowball’s chance of getting the White House, but engaged and continues to engage because he knows full well he can easily skim off the top without consequence.

Pretty greedy for a red diaper commie.
