Phil Donahue, an innovative TV host who rose to fame in the late 1960s after being the first person to interact with a studio audience and bring new ideas into American living rooms, died Sunday, his family said.
He was 88.
The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed, though his family said he’d been suffering from a “long illness.” More
The caller is no longer there.
I watched plenty of him back in the day
He taught men like John Lennon to cry or something
Boo hoo
Wish Kinnear was still doing Talk Soup. He’d have savaged this.
Phil Hartman was outstanding playing him on SNL (when it was funny)
Had Donahue show on in the morning sometimes before work in the 80’s. Taught me some things because at least the guy would ask questions. I distinctly remember the Ragin Cajin explaining how when he graduated college with his poly-sci degree he went with folks of the Democratic persuasion because they were easier to manipulate. Told me all I needed to know about Demoncrats.
There will be A LOT of deaths of famous people in his generation in the coming days and years.
The best clips of Donahue (Thank God for youtube) are when smart folks came on his show and attempted to disabuse him of his commie ways, for instance;

I remember when Rush went on his show, you can find most of these clips on youtube as well.
Gee, I don’t feel sad in the least at the news of this commie death democrat fuck finally taking the express elevator to hell. Cheers!
I remember Paul Newman coming on and talking about nuclear proliferation. He was well spoken and convincing, which I find amazing when thinking about celebrities today.
I saw somewhere how Phil gave us Oprah, which is probably the biggest knock I have against him now, other than I remember him as being a raging liberal that would occasionally have on someone sensible and would actually let that person talk. Not that it ever seemed to sink in with Phil.
did the family actually see Satan taking him down to hell
Good riddance.
From Wiki…
“In 1987, he received the “Maggie” Award, highest honor of the Planned Parenthood Federation, in tribute to their founder Margaret Sanger.”
Down here, we call her Peg.
RIP
Didn’t watch his show or know much about him.
Graduated in the very first class from my old high school in Lakewood OH. We never lived that down! :^(
I remember him having a tranny on his show in the (80s?). They’ve been pushing this for a long time.
