Just The News: Police are reportedly increasingly using Google data to identify suspects in criminal investigations, a trend that has experts warning about possible privacy and civil liberty concerns.
“Geofence location warrants and reverse search warrants” are “increasingly becoming the tool of choice for law enforcement,” according to The Guardian.
A “geofence” is “a virtual fence or perimeter around a physical location,” according to Verizon, while a “reverse search warrant” involves police “seeking location tracking information from cellphone providers, internet service providers and apps.”
Google “revealed for the first time in August that it received 11,554 geofence location warrants from law enforcement agencies in 2020, up from 8,396 in 2019 and 982 in 2018,” The Guardian reports.

“if you’re not guilty you have nothing to worry about” they say to the 1/6 protesters.
Shazaaam! Well gollly Gomer, I sure didn’t see that one coming.
Anyone stupid enough to wander around with a cell phone doing stupid things deserves whatever happens to them. EVERYONE should know by now that a cell phone is nothing but a Government sponsored tracking device.
I read that the feds are using something called “Stingray.”
They force cellphone comms to downgrade from 3G & 4G connectivity to 2G to get them to connect & reveal their location and unique ID.
2G allows a rogue cell tower to authenticate as legit, even though it is not.
3G & 4G fixed that problem but the feds found a work around by making your phone go to G2.
YET FUCKING FEDS COULDN’T PREVENT 9/11, VEGAS SHOOTER ETC…ASHHOLES!
@ LBS,
Because the feds were (are) complicit. They are neither there to protect and serve nor uphold the constitution. They do the bidding of the administrative state and embrace the new world order. Get used to it.
