Not clicking. I’ll take your word for it.
All I can say is, the standards for political humor in the 1960’s were much lower than they are today. People only laughed at it because it was so much better than the 1950’s, when there was NO political humor, for fear that Joe McCarthy would get wind of it and have you arrested as a Communist.
Believe me, I was there.
🙂
If you were a Commie bastard, you deserved it.
Nope.
@Corona: If your comment was directed toward me, fuck you and the syphilitic donkey you rode in on. And your pet cat.
If not, disregard this comment, and no offense meant.
Commie bastards run Congress now. My how things have changed.
Regardless of what happened in the 50s and 60s, we have seen the steady acceptance of lower standards, no discipline, no flag, no Pledge of Allegiance and all things bizarre and deviant for the past half century or so in the interest of “diversity” resulting in the mainstreaming of that which would destroy our society. Transgenderism is now being foisted on Kindergarteners and Communists are out in the open and in our faces! The biggest hurdle we have to face is the Bought & Paid for Media and very soon the Internet. The point is they’ve always been there and they only have one goal: destroy the West. It’s high time we recognize that threat again as a nation and fight it.
Not really funny, but in a way I do appreciate that this was a fairly different and offbeat theme for a 7 minute segment on a variety show in 1967.
@VietVet I think the only reason they laughed was because they had lighted signs in the studio that told the audience when to laugh.
@Doc: In many cases, yes they did. However, I think most sitcoms back in the day didn’t even bother with an audience – they used canned laugh tracks. You could always recognize it when one of the character said something insipid like, “Man, it’s really raining outside”, and the “audience” would laugh.
