Washington Examiner: A huge majority of the Republican Party supports President Trump’s handling of the partial government shutdown, according to a Huffington Post/YouGov poll released Thursday.
The poll reveals some deep divisions between Republican and Democratic voters.
A total of 84 percent of Republicans — 64 percent of whom strongly approve and 20 percent who somewhat approve — support Trump’s refusal to accept a funding bill that does not include more than $5 billion for enhancing security operations at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The gap is reversed on the other side, with 87 percent of Democrats unhappy with the Republican president’s behavior, according to the Dec. 22-23 poll of U.S. citizens.
What I don’t understand is why Trump is asking for 5 billion when it’s expected to take 25 billion to complete.
With the govt the source of so many problems, what’s not to love about a shutdown?

Joe6pak, I think he’s going with 5 billion because it’s a relatively small number and the Democrats look like petty grumblers arguing over pocket change. Also he knows that once a government project gets started, it’s hard to stop, and getting additional funding is much easier than getting initial funding.
I am worried for my Coast Guard relative that is not getting any pay right now. No service member should ever go unpaid.
At the end of this Trump ought to initiate a study on how well the government functioned during the closeure, how many departments were actually missed by the public and based on that how government can be cut with minimal impact to the citizens. I’d bet the results would be eye-watering.
Release the FISA documents, then ask if anyone is ready to play some hardball. We can see who can knock one over the wall.

Yesh! The is a great *actual* test: how much of the US government can we do without and never notice? Right now, it’s 25 per cent. I think Trump should keep the per cent the same, but shift things between agencies: a little Park Service here, a bit more DHS over there. (Kill *all* of NOAA, except the actual data collection folk. NO data “adjusters!)

Puerto Rico still is in economic distress over the hurricane and its inability to do an honest day’s work — or avoid corruption. Our bill there was about $70 billion I believe. Zero complaints from the Dems. Last I hard Puerto Rico claims the final bill could be $150 billion.

Being a geek, I went another way to access the automated weather station they have at the local airport. Works fine.
Which means some leftist dipshit went out of their way to disable that first website.

Seems to me it’s the Dems that are favoring the shutdown, after all they own this shutdown due to their stubbornness in refusing to do their sworn duty to protect the country, and fund building the wall.
