we raised some flying squirrels when I was a kid. their instict is to glide. I think that broom handle somehow triggered that instinct and it stretched out that way tring to glide.
I find it amazing the squirrel went through so much to pretend something. Truly phenomenal on that point alone.

A family friend many years ago decided to take in a baby squirrel and raise it.
That squirrel absolutely loved the guy.
Everyone else who entered the same area the man was in did so at their own peril.
I hated that bushy tailed rat.
