Potential law stops law enforcement from seizing property without conviction nearing return

CPR:  Lawmakers and civil-liberty groups are ratcheting up public support for a bill that closes a loophole allowing local law enforcement agencies to seize citizens’ property without a criminal conviction — a practice dubbed “policing for profit.”

dollar money shock face

Current California law already bars the practice of seizing property without a conviction for assets valued at under $25,000 and requires “clear and convincing evidence” of a connection to a crime for assets exceeding $25,000 in value.

Law enforcement can get around that if the seizure is done in coordination with federal law enforcement and 20 percent of the proceeds are kicked up to the federal government — more

  1. Czar, you aren’t that dense.
There is a BIG difference to people voluntarily entering a game where the rules are known and agreed upon in advance and something like this where it is being imposed on unwilling people.
You don’t do your side any favors by continually reminding people of Trump’s crying about people failing to just give him what he wants.

  2. You need a law to stop the gov’t’s lawlessness?

    WTF has happened to America?

Maybe the ferals are right – if The Gov’t won’t abide by the law, why should WE?

And $25,000 ain’t chump change – at least not hereabouts.

    izlamo delenda est …

  3. Today’s govt is running itself as an anarchy: they do not govern themselves, and they do not recognize, much less, obey the laws they impose on us mere mundanes.

If they get to benefit from anarchy, then I demand the same benefit.

    Imperium delenda est.
