7 Comments on President Supports Yanking ABC’s and NBC’s FCC Licenses

  1. The fact of the matter is that if the broadcasters towers fell over today they would only lose maybe 10% of their viewers because most people get their programming on cable or internet streaming. The hitch is if their broadcast license is pulled they cannot broadcast or have to cease their programming on cable under the original retransmission agreement. That means they would have to re-classify themselves as a programmer or a non-broadcaster and become another little fish in the sea of cable channels… which is pretty much what they became anyway.

  2. The networks don’t have ‘licenses’. Over the air stations do, it’s called authorizations, but referred as a license. The networks own stations in the biggest markets, though.

  3. Furthermore, the licenses are not for the networks. They are for the local broadcasters so it comes down to a question of how many local broadcast licenses need to be pulled before the networks start cooperating.
