President Trump urged to reform auto emissions rules, battle California

WaEX: President Trump’s former transition team leaders urged him on Thursday to stay the course on reforming auto emissions rules in meetings with automaker CEOs on Friday.

The transition chiefs don’t want Trump to be swayed from moving ahead with a plan at the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation to weaken fuel efficiency rules for cars.

“We understand that some in the automaker community have expressed concerns about your current plans to reform the program,” the transition heads said in a letter to the president.

They point out that it’s “worth noting that early in your presidency, these same automakers urged your administration to ‘reconsider imposing such a far-reaching mandate on an entire industry’ and were greatly concerned that the existing mandate, which you are attempting to reform, ‘could cause up to 1.1 million Americans to lose jobs due to lost vehicle sales.’”

They argue that Trump’s proposed plan to reform the Obama-era auto rules would better accommodate consumer choice, rather than proceed under a mandate to make cars that people do not want.  read more

  1. Given the amount of traffic in CA and the fact it’s the only state to allow lane splitting, everyone should be on motorcycles anyhow. Who needs a $100k++ Tesla to go 0-60 in less than 3 seconds when most of the time it’ll be stopped dead in traffic? Get a $5k bike and go just as fast and reach your destination even faster with lane splitting.

  2. The increased CAFE standards and emission standards are just another Obama pronouncement, not based on science or subject to debate or congressional approval, so revoke them as promised, and let fuc California sue the Feds.

  3. You know those little bitty ugly Chevy Sparks?
They barely meet the emission standards.
So in the future we will all be driving little Sparks and similar tiny boxes on wheels.
    Unless President Trump steps in.

  4. It might be a moot point as the EU seems intent on hurtling into the climate-change inspired cesspool of crushing regulations. Every auto maker on the planet will have to meet their standards or give up selling to one of the world’s largest markets. VW and others have responded by pledging to go all (or almost all) electric, giving up gas and diesel engines.

  5. Tony R: You’re urging illegals and democrats to be less likely to be involved in a crash involving 2 or more vehicles. On the other hand I hope every level headed person in CA get a bike and take advantage of lane splitting.
