College Fix: Administrators gave admissions edge to wealthier applicants, lawsuit alleges
A group of America’s most prestigious universities formed a “cartel” to keep the net price of attendance artificially high, according to a lawsuit filed in an Illinois federal court this week.
The lawsuit was filed against 16 schools that are being accused of illegally colluding to limit the amount of financial assistance they offer students. Such a practice would save schools money and prevent students from fleeing to competitor schools that offered more generous financial aid packages.
“In critical respects, elite, private universities like Defendants are gatekeepers to the American Dream,” reads the lawsuit. “Defendants’ misconduct is therefore particularly egregious because it has narrowed a critical pathway to upward mobility that admission to their institutions represents.”
The schools accused of illegal collusion include Brown University, Northwestern University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dartmouth College, University of Chicago, Cornell University, Georgetown University, University of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt University, Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, and others. more
Liberals.
Always doing unto others what they accuse others of doing unto themselves.
I guess paying 1/1024 Indians $400k/yr to teach one class just doesn’t inflate the cost of attendance enough!
Thomas Sowell covered all of this Years ago in “Economic Facts and Fallacies”
The ABA also has a huge hand in making Law Schools unaffordable.
Five students bring a law suit against 16 universities? Court will declare “no standing”.
Universities are a BUSINESS.
If you reduce drastically the Gov’t Loans they WILL REDUCE their prices to meet market demand.
The programs also are WAY TOO LONG with too many unnecessary courses added on to lengthen the duration out to 8 years in many cases.
Streamline the fucking shit, eliminate the Bird courses, and ONLINE = $50% reduction by government mandate (since the cocksuckers love Government mandates soooo much)!
Currently
HVAC is 2 – 3 years college and then a 5 year apprenticeship in Canuckistan. 7 to 8 years, are you fucking kidding me?
That’s Community College, not even university FFS!
Most universities are SJW ProgTard useless as tits on a boar hog “Studies” anyway.
Let ’em raise their prices to the moon. It’s a good thing I’m not in HR, if I saw a resume with any of those upper crust Ivy League names on it, instant DELETE/round circular file 13, and on to the next…..and the next….
Student loans for any student regardless of their credit is the main culprit of universities becoming over priced Yugos. Useless degrees for students who should never be in college using student loans which are handed out like candy thanks to Bush’s 2005 Bankruptcy Reform in 2005 which prevents student loans from being discharged in bankruptcy. Then the Kenyan federalized student loans altogether. Thus lenders can give student loans to anyone, regardless of credit, knowing that if the borrower defaults big gov., i.e. the American taxpayer, will pay the loan.
The article erroneously puts “cartel” in quotes (they DID conspire as a cartel) when it should more accurately put in quotes the descriptor “prestigious”.
May I suggest instead they call them ‘long-ago prestigious’.
Kcir, no shit. For the telco I passed a test called the UTB (universal test battery), passed plant school, and became a telco shithead. I admit it took me about 5 years to become a real telephone man. About 2 years into the first 5 I passed the COT (Central Office Technician) test and was hired on by Special Services.
Erik,
When you were correcting people here who thought you were a tile man you basically said you were pulling out wires in the below ground basement.
Friendly tip: Be careful how you phrase that or someone would incorrectly think you were pulling your wire in the basement.
Cheers Erik! Not meant as an insult.
