Push to remove Cuomo name, restore Tappan Zee Bridge gets new life with Dem support

NYP: A Hudson Valley Democrat wants to push the late former Gov. Mario M. Cuomo off his bridge — or at least the Cuomo name.

“Everyone in the Hudson Valley still calls the bridge the Tappan Zee for a reason,” state Sen. James Skoufis (D-Woodbury) told The Post of the span completed in 2018. “It’s the rightful name.”

Skoufis is adding his political muscle to a three-year-old legislative push by becoming the main sponsor of a bill to rename the bridge connecting Rockland and Westchester counties after two years in which GOP-led efforts went nowhere in a state Legislature dominated by Democratic supermajorities.

The name change would take effect immediately upon the bill passing the state Senate and Assembly — which Skoufis hopes to accomplish before the regular legislative session ends this June — and getting signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“Anytime by June 8 would be great,” Skoufis said of his timetable to move the bill through the legislative works. more

  1. …by June 8th, they will probably rename it for Joe Biden, after he is shot by a MAGA hat wearing White Male FBI agent with an AR-15 who for some reason is never found, but much will be made at the naming ceremony of the legacy of the gun confiscations his noble death inspired as they raise his image under heavy police and military guard to smirk forever over the city and country he worked so hard to destroy.

  2. SNS – If they re-name it after Jackass Joe it will probably collapse shortly thereafter since he fucks up everything he touches!!
No, I think it just goes to show that even democRATz aren’t completely blind. I just hope we can get some statues restored that these rat-bastards have torn down!

  3. in 2021 it was reported the tappan zee bridge had structural problems

“Tappan Zee Constructors, the private corporation building the bridge for the state authority, may have committed fraud by concealing the fact that large numbers of bolts had been breaking due to either improper installation techniques, manufacturing defects, or both.”

  4. The whole business of naming govt buildings, airports, bridges, roads, etc., is political masturbation. It would be refreshing to see a fed and state bills proposed to ban the practice.

Descriptive names would be nice. Instead of, say, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, putting up signs identifying it as No-Go Zone Road?

  5. As I’ve spent many an hour on the Tappan Zee, and on the ferry to avoid the traffic, I vote to keep the old name.

As I’ve seen the destruction of one Cuomo and read much of the destruction of the other, I vote to keep the old name.
