No, not McCain.
Perhaps the best way to assess the senate career of the recently departed John McCain is to compare him to his closest peer. Since McCain is best remembered for being a POW during the Vietnam War it seems natural to compare him to another senator who had also been held by the North Vietnamese during that conflict. Senator Jeremiah Denton from Alabama may not have held office for 30 years, but that just makes his time in Washington more admirable. Here
Here is the full movie “When Hell Was in Session” the biopic of Denton’s time in the POW camp.
Here is the most memorable scene, where Denton ingeniously sends a message to the world by using eye blinks to deliver morse code.
Many folks are rightfully upset that McShames wake, and shout out, lasted an
agonizing long eight days! However, we must remember and take heart from the fact that every one of those eight days reminded us that McShame would never darken the doors of Congress ever again! Halleluja!
Denton was a true Officer and Gentlemen, something the petty, self-absorbed McCain could never attain.
I didn’t realize he was a senator! Wow.
Denton, now you’re speaking of a Man of Honor.
McVain……nowhere close.
Denton spent 7+ yrs in captivity, with 5+ in solitary confinement.
The vid link is good, but as always…the book has more depth and detail.
Highly recommended and very humbling.

Senator Denton barely lost his re-election to a second term as Senator from Alabama. His replacement, Richard Shelby, switched parties and became a conservative Republican after that Party finally replaced the Yellow Dog Democrats in most of the South. Denton was truly too good for the Washington Swamp.
I remember watching this years ago. The young lady I watched it with was balling her eyes out.
