DM– A plumber in Texas said his life was ruined after a photo of jihadis shooting an anti-aircraft gun from a pickup truck displaying his company’s decals went viral last year.
Mark Oberholtzer, owner of Mark-1 Plumbing in Texas City, left the ‘Mark-1 plumbing’ stickers on the truck when he traded it in for a newer Ford pickup at AutoNation Ford Gulf Freeway in October 2013.
A year later, a photo posted on Twitter by the extremist Ansar al-Deen Front from the front lines of the war in Syria showed his truck – stickers and all – being used by jihadis.
Oberholtzer is now seeking more than $1million in punitive damages from AutoNation Ford Gulf Freeway for fraud, gross negligence, negligent misrepresentation, defamation, invasion of privacy and deceptive trade, according to Courthouse News.
I’ve had a couple company trucks that eventually we got rid of. We always got rid of the company stuff on the door. But, how do you trade your easily identifiable truck in and have it end up in a war zone. The Feds should have been on this right out of the gate
It was important though, that the gunner’s identity is kept secret.
HOW’S MY FIRING?
1-800-14JIHAD
I was going to say no way in hell I don’t remember that. But. I do.
We take all lettering off our old trucks when we get rid of them. Usually we give to some person who needs a dependable vehicle. For free.
It’s a tax deduction. I’m not a saint.
You gotta sanitize your own shit; trust nobody.
Damn, you’d think world wide advertising would be a God-send.
Must’ve been the wrong god.
These sand monkeys have no idea what plumbing is anyway
If he gets the $million that will be the best screw-up ever
When Haji lands in TX as a refu-haji, there is going to be that awkward exchange of looks when he sees one of those company trucks.
Plus, it’s hard to be a plumber when you can only use your left hand.
🙂
I recently went to the biggest wholesale (dealers only) auto auction on the east coast. This is where dealers sell off their unwanted trade-ins and and where old rental and lease vehicles go. I went with a friend who has a small used car dealership. I noticed a huge number of middle eastern and african people buying all sorts of cars and trucks. I asked him about it, and he said most of the cars they are buying are going overseas.
Why would there be an expectation that the lettering would be removed?
Bingo. I don’t think he’s got a case.
Construction workers will remember the old saying –
All you need to know to be a plumber is shit runs downhill and payday’s on Friday.
Guy was stupid to leave the lettering on; dealer’s got no duty to remove it.
Looks like an early 90s Chevy S-10. I had one (also black) until an old lady pulled out in front of me and totaled it. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.
I’ll go with Obama’s government is in on it for $1000.
