Remember when Lennon said The Beatles were bigger than Jesus? – IOTW Report

Remember when Lennon said The Beatles were bigger than Jesus?

Lennon’s opinion, that The Beatle’s were bigger than Jesus with teenagers, caused a huge backlash at the time. It wasn’t enough to sink them, but it caused a stain.

Now it’s Mark Zuckerberg’s turn.

The Facebook founder didn’t say he was bigger than Jesus, but he did say that his creation, Facebook, has filled the void that the church once filled with people.

As the church declines, Facebook is there to pick up the slack.

Uhhhh, no.

  1. I like John Lennon more than I like Mark Zuckerberg. John Lennon, by some accounts was changing his views to a more capitalistic perspective. It seems like Zuckerberg is looking forward to help running to world. He is trouble with a capital T!

  2. Facebook is a fad. A long-lasting fad, but one nonetheless. Once people realize it is a poor substitute for actual human connection, the void it once occupied will be filled with better stuff.

“In a revolutionary epoch, sometimes men taste every novelty, sicken of them all, and return to ancient principles so long disused that they seem refreshingly hearty when they are rediscovered.”

  3. I don’t care to join Zuckerbook or Twee. My life is my own (boring though it may be!) and I’d rather spend time here (and a few other sites) for the excellent viewpointa and the laughter.

Thanks for all you do for me and everyone out here!!!

  4. Trump is right to go after amazon for taxes etc. but he shouldn’t stop there. Zukerturd is long over due for a good shake up. Never used facebook and because I can’t stand that pig, I never will. I really never understood the appeal.

  5. He is right, but it’s not Facebook’s fault he is right, nor is it the fault of smartphones, the internet, TV, etc.

A further point. If churches that once preached sound Bible truth no longer do so, are people now any worse off for not going to those churches anymore?

  6. Look up my church’s website and watch one of the podcasts. Our pastor is young, funny and the messages are always straight from the Bible. 47 peeps got saved this past Sunday. Awesomeness.

  7. From the COE22.com statement of faith:

“Biblical repentance is characterized by a changed life, and saving faith is EVIDENCED by kingdom service or works. While neither repentance nor works save, unless a person is willing to deny himself, pick up his cross and follow Christ, he cannot become His disciple.”

Sorry but this is a contradiction. Churches I used to attend tried saying the same thing.

What it says, as most protestant/evangelical churches today say, is that while salvation is without works, salvation is not possible where those works are not in evidence. So it’s talking out of both sides of the mouth — it DOES amount to salvation by whatever works a given church says must be in evidence to prove one is saved.

On top of that…WHICH works? Where does one go in the Bible to know for sure WHICH works MUST be in evidence to prove someone is truly saved?

That S.O.F. is a straight up false gospel. It is modern day Galatianism. It is the result of failing to rightly divide the Word of truth.

If I may suggested it, what you need to do is find a church that stands on salvation by grace through faith in Christ ALONE, without works either to BE saved, to STAY saved or to prove to others that you ARE saved, and which stands firm on that. Such churches are exceedingly rare, sometimes meeting in people’s homes, but they are out there.

Maybe Grool, you can find a church that wrote their own bible because that is the only way you are going to get that result.

It’s pretty clear that when St Paul talks about not being saved by “works” he is talking about “works of the law” as in old testament ritual law, but it is clear that works is still required:

James 2:24, 26 – “You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone… For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead.” (see all of James 2:14-26)
