Nearly half of Canadians surveyed by Reuters/Ipsos want to deport illegals who have made their way across the border from America.
Reuters’ report on the survey reads:
Canadians appeared to be just as concerned about illegal immigration as their American neighbors, according to the poll, which was conducted between March 8-9.
Some 48 percent of Canadians said they supported ‘increasing the deportation of people living in Canada illegally.’
When asked specifically about the recent border crossings from the United States, the same number – 48 percent – said Canada should ‘send these migrants back to the U.S.’
These results directly contradict statements made by Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who declared earlier this year that Canadians will welcome all those “fleeing persecution, terror & war.”

That would be the “nearly 50%” that didn’t vote for him? Right.
It’s a little depressing that the number is 48% to deport illegals while 36% want to keep them. Having said that, since Canada is a three party system (Conservative Party, Liberal Party and the New Democrat Party, four if you count Quebec’s Parti Quebecois) with only the Conservatives likely fully support deportation that’s a good number for the election. This is especially true since Trudeau was forced to back away from his changes to the election act that would likely favour the left. I suspect that the deport them number will only increase if the numbers start to grow and the inevitable problems occur.
