The Trump administration announced Friday that it has begun “substantial” layoffs of federal workers, as the government remains shut down due to the inability of Congress to reach a funding deal.
“The RIFs have begun,” White House budget director Russ Vought said on X, referring to “reduction in force” for workers.
While he didn’t provide details, a spokesperson for the White House Office of Management and Budget confirmed to NBC News that the layoffs have begun and said they will be “substantial.”

The pattern is always the same; Federal workers are laid off, the union sues, some dumb-ass Biden DEI judge declares either the action violated federal law or is unconstitutional, all workers return with back pay, nothing is accomplished.
I would like to see the entire Trump administration, all cabinet-level employees and all GOP members of Congress declare before the people that while the government is shut down, they will receive no pay. None of them will starve or be inconvenienced in any way, but they should fall in line with all other government workers.

We are bankrupt. 38 trillion in debt is unsustainable. The sooner we rein in spending the less painful the bankruptcy process is going to be. So. Even if a few of them provide a return on investment, the bottom line is that we cannot afford them.
